"Ok, open the stalls," Carter says. We start at the ones closest to the exit, so we don't get trampled. They all trot straight over to the pasture, looking very content.
After they are all grazing peacefully, Carter gives me the okay to let Ezhno out. He's expecting me to clip a lead on Ezhno and walk him to the field, but what's the fun in that?
The surprised expression on Carter's face when I come out of the barn galloping bareback on Ezhno is laughable. My hair flies our behind me, and for a few seconds, I throw my arms out as if I were flying. But then I grab hold of Ezhno's mane for fear of falling off. We charge into the pasture and do a 'victory lap' before I dismount and let Ezhno aquatint himself with all the other horses.
"Well I was not expecting that," Carter chuckles as I exit the pasture.
"What can I say? I like making an entrance," I say, shrugging my shoulders.
"Now we get to do the fun part- cleaning stalls," Carter sarcastically chimes.
Somebody please, kill me now.
-----------
[for the record, I almost stopped the chapter here, but then I DIDN'T. Lol]
-----------
I finally finish the last stall. Little beads of sweat are all over me. I'm so parched, and sort of hungry.
"Carter, can you go get me some water," I request. He nods at me, and takes off towards the house.
I walk out to the pasture to admire the horses. Ezhno immediately notices and he trots over to me.
"Hey boy," I coo, stroking his mane. He nuzzles my shoulder, and then my pockets, looking for treats. I laugh at him.
Suddenly, looks behind me and snorts. I turn and see Carter with my water, which I graciously take from him.
"Thanks," I chime before guzzling it down.
"You're welcome. And whenever you're ready, do you mind going into the field and helping me catch Navajo?"
"It does not take more than one person to catch a horse," I taunt.
"No, but it does take two, sometimes three people to catch her. She's very clever," he says, rolling his eyes at me.
"I can catch her by myself," I bet. He looks at me, amused, but doesn't say anything. "Just give me her halter, her lead, and a treat."
Carter goes to the tack room, and comes back with a green halter and a black lead. I sling them both over my shoulder, and head towards Navajo.
She looks up at me, and as soon as she sees the halter, bolts to the other side of the pasture.
I can hear Carter laughing at me. Well, jokes on him, because I don't give up that easily.
"Ezhno!" I call out. He obediently trots over to me.
I hoist myself up onto him, and crouch down so that I'm harder to see from the front. Then I click my heels, and have Ezhno walk right up to Navajo. She pays no attention to him, because he's just a horse.
I toss the treat on the ground, and Navajo leans down to eat it.
It's now or never. I quietly dismount Ezhno, go around to Navajo's side and-
In one fluent, quick motion, I have the halter over her head. She's startled, but I hold her right as I do the strap, and clip the lead rope on.
She fights me a little, but once she sees that I won't let go, she gives up and reluctantly follows me as I triumphantly march up to Carter.
"See, I told you it doesn't take two people," I smirk.
He laughs, and says, "You really are something else."
A/N so I just realized that I update a lot. Like A LOT. Do you guys think I update too much? Would you rather me do a really long update once or twice a week, or multiple short updates daily?
Also, I stopped writing my other book. It seemed like a really good idea yesterday when I came up with it, but as soon as I started writing it I realized I didn't have enough content to make a real story. Does that ever happen to you? Happens to me a lot. But DONT WORRY I'm not going to quit this story because I still have a ton of content for this one.
Thanks for reading! Vote and Comment (but only if you like it)
P.S. Does anyone else watch modern family? because I am so psyched that the one hour season premiere is coming on tonight *does a happy dance*
