Published June 3, 2016I only saw Dumbledore at meals twice the next few weeks. Since he was never around, how was I supposed to ask him to arrange a meeting for Fred and I or even talk through things with him? I was slightly happy that Dumbledore was taking this time to understand more so he can pass it on to Harry, but I could tell Harry was feeling abandoned, too.
Halfway through October came our first visit to Hogsmeade. Tonks wrote me about it before any of the others even knew about it, just so I could tell Fred to clear his schedule for that weekend. She and I were becoming closer, she understood that I had my "private mission" (she called it that) and the pressure from the order during these hard pre-war times.
"It's great that we still get these trips," Ron was saying when it was posted one morning in the common room.
"I didn't think they would happen, with all of these security stuff," Hermione said, twirling her frizzy hair.
"Yeah, I was writing Tonks about it and she said they want Hogwarts to be as normal as possible so all the students wouldn't be pulled out by their parents," I told them as I picked at my nails. I had broken one earlier and it was bothering me.
"Good thing you are talking to Tonks, she seemed so ... depressed the last time we saw her," Hermione said and Harry nodded in agreement.
I woke up early on the morning of the trip, which seemed stormy. I found Riley and cleaned her up, clipping her nails, brushing her red hair and applying dry shampoo to her fur. She kept herself well fed with the mice she found around the castle, but she always made her way home to my dorm to sleep on the end of my bed. Animals are the best. Clare, my pygmy puff purred as I dropped Riley back on the floor, they were the best of friends. I then did maintenance on Clare, clipping her nails and putting Pygmy Puff Conditioner in her hair to keep it nice and soft.
A week before, I made a plan for this school year. I didn't like the plan, but it was the only way for me to save people. I recorded every event that would happen this next year and wrote down what I will do for each one. I knew one would happen to day, a big one that I would have a nasty part in but I needed to try.
I swallowed my guilt and got out my quill and parchment. My hand was shaky when I wrote, but I needed to write this down for him, just in case today went south.
While the wind and sleet pounded relentlessly on the castle, I wrote the letter.
"Morning Lily," said Hermione as she got out of bed. "Whatcha doing?"
"Just some homework," I told her, sealing the letter in its envelope.
We got dressed, I wore three of my sweaters from Mrs. Weasley and carried my cloak and two scarves. It seemed like terrible weather outside.
Hermione and I sat down for breakfast with Harry and Ron, who were laughing really hard.
"There was a flash of light and then I was hanging from my ankle!-"
"--He screamed and woke the whole castle up," Harry added in, smiling widely.
"Shut it, I was just floating above my bead, my ankle felt like there was a noose around it, and there was another flash of light and I landed back on my bed," Ron finished, grinning and helping himself to some more sausages.
I looked over to Hermione to see that she wasn't smiling at the boy's adventure with Harry's new spell.
"Was this spell, by any chance, one from that potion book of yours?" Hermione asked, with a look of disapproval.
Harry frowned at her, "Yeah, so what?"
"So you just decided to try an unknown spell on your best friend and just waited to see what happened?" Hermione said. Harry didn't answer. "I'm starting to think this Prince guy is a little dodgy."
