JEAN'S POV

By the time everyone arrived, it was about four o'clock. She was sent to her room to change and she trudged upstairs like she was told. She got out the purple dress on a hanger and slipped into it with ease. It hung on her and shaped her up nicely. She dressed it up with stud-diamond earrings and a simple purple and silver bracelet.

The pack had gone home to change themselves, but she didn't know into what. She'd figure they only had t-shirts and sweatpants, some jeans here and there maybe. But who knows? She kicked on some black high-heels with a purple liningt, applied little make-up, and brushed her hair out straight with her blow-dryer. With one sigh in the mirror she went down to face her doom.

She was swarmed in the living room by family members. Those grandmothers who pinch your cheeks and constantly get your name wrong- she had them. Those aunts and uncles who glare snootliy at everyone in the room from corners- she had them. And those grandfathers who told stories about the 'old days'- she had those too. They were all talking at once and she had trouble keeping up, after a while, she stopped trying.

It was then that she saw the pack enter through the crowd. Sam with Emily, Paul, Quil, Jared with Kim, Collin, Brady, Leah, Seth, Sue, and Jacob. . . . Jacob.

He had a pair of dark-wash jeans and a black button-up dress-shirt. He looked fantastic. Who knew he could clean up so well? In fact all the boys did, but he was just the cherry on the cake. She could get used to this imprinting thing.

JACOB'S POV

He walked in the door and scanned the crowd, he saw her through the mass of relatives. She was completely ignoring them now, looking straight at him. Gee, she just made it so hard not to love this girl. Her whole face lit up, and she was grinning ear-to-ear, probably thinking he'd rescue her- which he would, happily. And her outfit. Her dress.

It was purple and hung down at, unfortunatly, a reasonable length. It didn't have that low of a neckline, but low enough. It shaped her up nicely, and he couldn't believe that for that time she was all his. It was official, this girl he'd known for most his life was his. All. His. He had been so focussed on her and his thoughts, he didn't see her slip away politly.

"Jean, grab the ice bucket from outside!" Was what he didn't hear. He saw her mouth move in small good-byes, though. She went to the kitchen and he went around to the pack once more.

JEAN'S POV

It was a life-savor, and her mom didn't even know she was doing it. A chance to get away from them. Her family, ick. She went to the kitchen and pulled a notepad by the phone used for messages, grabbed a pen, clicked it on the counter, and scrawled across it:

Ice Bucket Outside, Meet ya?

She ripped off the sheet and crumpled it in her hand then made her way out to the main room. It was big and cleared out for the 'event'. Luckily, Jacob was standing near the front door, where she had to go. She walked by casually snatching up his hand breifly, thrusting the paper in, greeting the rest of the guys who hadn't noticed a thing- there was food, and exited.

JACOB'S POV

He saw Jean walk towards him, and she had a mischevious look in her eyes. He felt her warm hand, but really anything was warm to him, touch his subtly and shortly then he felt the crumpled paper in his hand. He pretended to go to the bathroom and then he read the note. Ice Bucket? What the Hell? Maybe she couldn't lift it. . . ?

Jacob slipped out of the house and around the side of it only to be dragged lightly, doing almost no effect- he humored the person thinking it was Jean. It was. The moonlight shone off her and made her look more beatiful than usual.

"Good you can follow directions." She complimented.

"So, you can't lift it?" He asked.

"No, I just need a little motivation." She smirked slyly, before leaping and wrapping her legs around his waist and crashing her lips onto his. He loved this girl. There was just no way to escape it. He kissed back before smiling into the kiss and wrapped one arm around her back to support her and one under her lower thigh to boost her up.

He brought her back to the side of the house lightly and she wound her arms around his neck, this being one of the only times she could reach it. There was still that little explosion in the pit of his stomach from excitement and love for her. She made life spontaneous, he remembered everything from when they were ten, all the things she did.

There were so many times in school where teachers called her Jean- which she wouldn't stand for- the many times she got sent to the office for detentions for talking back to teachers. Or even those couple thousand times she'd get Quil, Paul, Jared, or Embry in trouble by pestering them to make them shout during a lesson. She never did it to him, though. Best friend pact.

He remembered the time when they were lying down at the La Push Beach after a famous bonfire, it was one of the last nights she had here. They were sprawled out on the sand, staring up at the bright starry sky.

FLASHBACK

"Jakey?" She sighed. She was sad and upset, he could tell. He was too- but to make it easier, he didn't show it.

"Yeah, J?" He answered.

"Promise me something?"

"Anything."

"Let's make a best friend pact, like they do on T.V." It was these kinds of ideas that made him wonder and worry for her sanity.

"Alright." He said sitting up from the sand. They sat with their legs crossed facing eachother.

"Me and you will always be best friends, forever and ever, like the werewolves in Billy's stories- no aging. Atleast not on the inside, we'll always be goofs and even if I go to this boarding school, you'll never forget me." She sniffled a few times.

"Jean, I'll never forget you, no matter what. It's too hard." He said pulling her in for a hug.

"I'm just very nervous."

"About what?"

"Who's gonna make me feel better when there's a thunder storm? Who's gonna sneak out in the middle of the night for cookies? Who's gonna run down to the beach in a race? Who's gonna beat me at it?" Some of this was broken up by sobs

"Shh, Jean," He said rubbing her back while she muffled tears into his chest.

"You'll be back someday, when you feel like it's right."

"What if you don't want me to come back? And Embry, Quil, Jared, Paul?"

"Never say that." He instructed. "We'll always love you."

"And I...I will always love you. . ." She sung very sofly, 'I Will Always Love You'

"That's right."

And it was. He kept kissing her, with all the feeling he kept for seven long years. All of the heartbreak and rejection he'd gone through, all for one girl who didn't want him- all for one girl that wasn't Jean. But this girl, in his arms, kissing him willingly- not breaking his nose. Now that was something. It made him feel good, and that brought on confidence. He slid his tongue in her mouth and she giggled before continuing.

When they finally broke apart he told her about the memory he had, she remembered it and could quote it clear as day. They grinned at eachother before going to the bucket with almost melted ice. Apparently they'd been out there longer than they thought.

She tried to lift it from several different angles while he stood back and laughed at the sight of it. She really was a good laugh, much like her singing. And she'd never quit.

"You want some help with that?" He snickered.

"No." She said flatly. Then she shoved her bangs back and huffed out her breath.

"You're sure?" He asked doubtfully.

"Urrrrrrgh, yes!" She groaned.

"Let me do it." He said, pushing past lightly but she pushed back.

"I can do it!"
"No, you can't!"
"Yes I can!"
"It's too damn cold to pretend you can lift this!"
"But I can!"
"But you can't!"
"Yes- I ca-Eeee!" She fell in the big ice bucket. It was a good sized one, too, and she tipped and sat perfectly right in the center. The water slopped out and over her head, laying her head flat to her head before it started frizzing. "Happy, Hulk Hogan?"

"No, now you're all wet. But you do look pretty hot." He commented.

"Shut it." She snapped, hiding the smirk. But just as he leant down to pick her up, the rest of the pack came around the corner of the house. They froze at the sight and then went into a complete fit of laughter. Jean crossed her arms and tried to heave herself out of the bucket. It was too heavy to life, but if it were lighter it would have been stuck to her butt.

"Come on, someone grab the bucket and someone grab Jean." Embry said wiping the tears out of his eyes.

"I'm g-g-glad you're enjoying y-yourselves." She said through chattering teeth.

He took both her hands and Embry got the bucket, and they got her out succesfully. She went up to her bedroom without a single word to the rest of them. This was not over, far from it too. After all she was friends with Quil and Paul. .
