I wake up, and feel Mark rubbing my shoulder while the nurse checks his vitals." Now I'm going to give you a few pain killers, and then bring you some food to eat. Just soft foods though, do you want me to bring some food for your daughter?" She whispers, and he sighs." Yeah, but not that much food. She doesn't eat that much." He mumbles, and the nurse leaves. I slowly sit up, and Mark keeps his hand on me. He tilts his head slightly at me as I look at him." Good morning sleepy head." He says, and I grin." How long was I out?" I ask, rubbing my eyes." The entire night." He says, and I roll my eyes." I mean how many hours dick." I say, and he starts smiling." Almost five hours." He says, and I stretch my arms out as I wake up a bit more." Are...you okay?" I ask him, and he just grins." Of course I am, what about you? Are you okay?" He asks, and I shrug." I didn't sleep for an entire night, so define okay?" He starts to chuckle, and smiles at me." Yes, I'm okay." I tell him, and he kisses the top of my head. I look down at his hand with the IV in it, and start to rub it.
He looks down at it, and takes my hand into his." It's just for a little bit Lyca, I promise." He says, and sees me still looking sad." Why don't you read to me, that'll make me happy?" He says, and I perk up." Really? You sure?" I ask, and he nods." Or course, that would be amazing. It would help me go through the time being in this hell hole." He says, and I pull my chapter book out. I'm reading about machines being slaves to humans. It sounds futuristic I flip to the page I'm on, and slowly start to read to Mark. He wraps one arm around me as I read, and I feel his chest rise and fall against my arm. As I read, I listen closely to his heartbeat. It sounds normal, but also sounds distant. I hear it rise at the sound of the machine beeping louder." What's that?" I ask, looking over at his heart rate monitor." It's my heart monitor, when it beeps louder, it means that I'm not breathing as much as I should." He says, and takes in a deep breathe. I shut my book, and hold onto his hand.
A nurse comes in with two trays with food on them. She smiles at us as she sets them down on the tiny table." Now you don't have to eat right now, but I would like to see you both eat." She says, and leaves us alone. I scoot closer to Mark, and he hands me my food tray." You hungry?" He asks, and I nod." Super hungry." I tell him, and cut into the huge block of Jello. I watch his dig into his soup, and I get up off the bed." I'm going to go get some coffee, do you want some?" I ask, and he shakes his head." No, I can't. Not aloud caffeine while I'm in here." He says, and I roll my eyes." Okay, when is Thomas and Nona coming?" I ask, and he looks up at me again." Oh, I think maybe around two in the afternoon." I nod, then leave to go into the cafeteria. I pay for a cup of vanilla bean coffee, and mix some creamer into it." Hey I know you." I hear behind me, and turn around. Standing there is a nurse, her hair is dark brown and she has blue eyes." I'm sorry?" I ask, and she grins." I met you the other day remember? You had a panic attack in the elevator?" She says, and I stare at her in amazement.
"It's great to see you again Ms." I tell her, and she smiles." How are you feeling, tired?" She asks, and I shake my head." No, I feel asleep in my uncles arms, then fell asleep with my Dad for a few hours." I tell her, and she smiles." Who's your Dad?" She asks, and I blush a little bit." What?"
"Well, when I say my Dad's name, people start to get really excited."
"I've met a lot of celebrities, so I don't think I'll have that reaction. A lot of people come through here." She says, and I scratch the back of my head." Mark Fischbach?" I say, and she grins." He's that funny Youtuber isn't he?" She asks, and I nod." He's a gamer, goes by Markiplier." I tell her, and she grins." I'm not much of an internet gal, I'd rather have textbooks and history books to read than some lousy internet book." She says, and I start smiling." I read chapter books." I tell her, and we start walking toward the elevator." Could I meet your father?" She asks, and I shrug." I have to warn you, I'm not his real daughter." I tell her, blushing." What do you mean?" She asks, and the elevator doors open." Well, I had an abusive family. They've been abusive ever since I was born. So...Mark adopted me this year." I tell her, and she smiles as I press the fourth floor button." So what do you call him?"
