Forgotten at School

Mark is standing over me when I wake up the next morning, and he sits down on the bed next to me." I'll be picking you up right after school, I just wanted to let you know." He says, and I nod." Yeah I know. Today is Friday." I say, and he smiles. I sit up, and pull up my shirt. My bruises are still very dark, and hurt when I barely touch them. I get out of bed, and put on some clothes. I pull my bag over my shoulders, and walk downstairs. Mark pours two bowls of cereal, and we sit at the counter.  We don't talk, we just eat quietly.  I don't feel like talking much, I just want to get to school then back home."  Can you make a doctor's appointment for me?"  I ask, suddenly breaking the silence.  Mark looks up from his phone."  Sure, what's the matter?"  He asks, and he places his hand on my forehead."  I'm not sick.  I've just been having headaches, I want to make sure I don't have any real brain damage." I say, and  he takes his hand off my forehead

"I'll call my doctor after I drop you off at school."  He says, and takes are bowls to the sink."  Thank you."  I say as I get off the chair."  Thank you for telling me, most kids wouldn't tell their parents."  He says, and pats my shoulder.  We leave the apartment, and get into the car."  What are doing after school?"  I ask him as he drives through traffic." Maybe go back to the Grump Station, probable grab some food."  He says, and I look into my book bag.  My homework is all done, and I have two tests today."  You swear your going to pick me up today?"  I ask, and see he's pulling up to the school."  I promise."  He says, and unlocks the door,  I get out, and Mark waves to me before he drives away.  I turn around to see Robbie standing there waiting for me.  Time to start the day so I can finish it.

The bell rings for fourth hour to finish, and everyone runs out to escape the claws of school.  Robbie is standing in the doorway, and I smile at him."  You ready?"  He asks, and I nod."  Yeah, you have baseball practice?"  I ask, and he nods."  Yep, going to be playing game also.  Think you could make it?"  He asks, and I shrug."  I don't know, I'm not sure what we're doing after school."  I tell him, and he gives me a warm smile."  I'll chat with you on Monday if you can't make it."  He says as we walk to my locker, and I grab my bag."  Hey, you think you'll be going to the big tournament in a few weeks?"  He asks, and I shrug."  I don't know, I'm probable going to.  I have a doctors appointment soon, to check out somethings about my injuries."  I say, and he nods."  Well, we'll see then okay?"  I nod.   He goes toward the gym for practice, and I walk outside in the entrance area.  There are people getting picked up, and people are starting to walk home.  But I don't see Mark.  I don't his car, I don't see any car I recognize.  He's not here.

He's just late, I keeping thinking, there's a lot of traffic.  I stand there, bouncing on the balls of my feet, looking around for him.  Parents are picking up their kids, and some give me odd looks.  I just hope that Mark gets here soon, so that I can get away from these people.   I notice that clouds are surrounding the area, large dark clouds.  Just a few moments after I realize this, it starts to pour rain.  I stand under the big roof of the school, and wait.  And wait.  And wait.  Fewer people are waiting with me, then it turns into zero people are waiting for me.  I'm the only one left, and the rain is coming down hard.  I'm sitting on a part of the brick wall that comes out, and I keep checking my watch.  Where is he?  He promised.  I feel really angry now, I feel forgotten.  I look at my phone again, it's almost five o'clock.  I should've been home two hours again.

I slid off the wall, and pull my hood up.  I start walking through the rain to the Grump Station.  It's freezing cold, and my jacket is soaked quickly.  I'm shivering, and I'm cold, but I keep going.  It's about a three mile walk, and I see the Grump Station up ahead.  It looks gloomy, and the lights are on.  I get to the street that I'm suppose to cross, and I see Mark's car is still there.  I run across the street, and get on the sidewalk attached to the parking lot of the Grump Station.  I run across the parking lot, and stand below the roof to get out of the rain.  I'm super pissed now.  I've had to run in the rain, got soaked, and worst of all my headaches have come back.  I pound on the door, and shiver as I wait for the door to open.
