Chapter One - From Good to Bad

I am Kathryn Rose and within a year, this is How Everything Changed.

Kathryn's P.O.V

Beside the fact that my parents are out of town to help my grandma move and I am staying at my neighbor's house, it had started like any other day. I was up at 5:15 so I could be at the gym at 6:00 for volleyball practice. I was in a great mood, because I knew the day would start with me singing as I got ready and end with me falling asleep in my own bed, for the first time in 3 days.

The day was going by so fast, and it was already lunch. I usually spend lunch with the other 8th graders that go to Echo, but yesterday my friends Monique, Taylor and I decided to spend todays lunch together, just the three of us. Sadly Monique got sick last night and it was just me and Taylor but we were still going to have fun.

"So have you decided if you were going to the Junior High dance or not?" Taylor asked curiously.

"Shoot, I totally forgot about it!" I replied "I still have to ask my mom, and I haven't even been asked to go with anyone, so I don't know if I will go."

"Please go!" She pleaded.

"Is Moe going?" I asked.

"She said she wouldn't go without a date." Taylor replied with a smirk.

"What are you thinking?" I asked nervously as she glanced at the group of boys sitting at the table on the other side of the cafeteria."No way! Is he really?!" Taylor shook her head in agreement. Monique had just broken up with her boyfriend Ian last month, but it was obvious they still had feelings for each other. "What did she say?" I asked curiously.

"He hasn't asked her yet." She replied. She still had that stupid smirk on her face.

"What?" I asked nervous, but curious.

"Oh it is nothing!" she said as her grin got bigger. She glanced at the group of boys.

"I am not stupid, Taylor! I know when you are hiding something, and you are right now!" She glanced at the boys one last time before our friend Ty saw us and walked over to the table we were at and sat down.

"Hey" Taylor and I said together.

"Hey" he replied. "So Kathryn can I talk to you..... alone?"

"Taylor can't hear?"I asked

"I will just leave you two alone." She said as she got up and walked away. Before she left she winked at me and she still had that stupid smirk on her face.

"So what is it?" I asked. He didn't say a word. He was just staring at me.

"Ty, are you okay? What are you looking at?" I asked. "Ty!" I said waving a hand in his face.

"Oh, yeah, sorry!" he replied.

"What were going to ask me?"

"Oh, um..." He cleared his throat "Will you go to the dance with me?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Ty and I were really close but I always thought of us as just friends. Was he seriously asking me to the dance?

"Kathryn?" he said worried.

"I would love to go to the dance with you!" I said trying to stay as calm as possible. Now I realize why Taylor had that stupid smirk on her face. She didn't just know about Ian asking Monique, but that Ty would ask me.

Ty left and I went to find Taylor. She was with some of our other friends: Sydney, Alyssa, Nicole, Bri, Juanita and Destiny.

"So..." they all said.

"So what?" I asked obviously already knowing what they were talking about.

"Are you and Ty going to the dance together or not?" Sydney asked as she seamed like she was about to burst with excitement at any second.

"What do you think?" I said sarcastically.

They all screamed in excitement.

The day carried on like usual. We had choir then math. Like normal Taylor and I sat together and compared answers for the assignment. 15 minutes before class was over, the teacher got a phone call from the office.

"Kathryn you are to take all you stuff and go to the office. You are leaving."

"Did they say why?" I asked

"Just that you were to get your stuff and go to the office right now." I looked at Taylor confused and she looked at me the same way.

"Text me later, okay Kat!"

"Okay" I replied and gave her a worried smile and a wave good bye.

When I got to the office I saw my best friend, Mady. We had been friends since before I could remember, way longer than Taylor, Monique or I were ever friends.

"Hi Kathryn!" Mady said with a smile. Mady helps out in the office when ever she can so she usually knows a lot of the things that happen in the school.

"Hey, so what's up?" I asked curiously "Why am I here, and why am I leaving?"

"I will explain on the way!" a voice said from behind.

I turned around to see my aunt.

"Aunt Debbie, why are you here?"

"Like I said I will explain on the way now out to my car, lets go!"

The next thing I knew we were driving to Portland and I was in tears. I had a suit case filled with enough clothes for a week. My aunt explained that all she knew was my parents were in a huge car crash and are now in the hospital.
