* Emma's POV *

We went back to the table we'd been at before and Killian surprised me by pulling me down to sit on his lap, his arm around me so his hook sat on my thigh and his cheek against mine as he read over my shoulder. I blushed a bit at the show of affection but smiled to myself, pulling his other arm around me to thread my fingers through his as we read.

"Let them be," I heard my mother whisper, glancing up to see her having a hushed conversation with my father as they continuously looked over at us. I blushed even more but otherwise ignored them, failing not to hear them talking. "I don't care if it annoys you, she just got him back."

I squeezed Killian's hand to get his attention, nodding slightly towards my bickering parents and rolling my eyes. I felt his chest shake as he chuckled, looking at him over my shoulder and finding him smirking like always. He waited until they were both looking over but Henry was out of sight to press a soft but passionate kiss to my lips, lingering even after we'd parted. I heard my father huff and my mother follow him when he went to the back of the library, giggling quietly when Killian grinned.

"I love that sound," he said softly, tucking my hair behind my ear. "Its been too long since I heard it."

"There you are," Regina said as she came in, clearly not caring that she interrupted. "I've been looking everywhere for you, I thought I told you to meet me at my vault."

"No, we definitely said here," I said awkwardly, now feeling guilty for being so obviously affectionate with Killian but knowing if I moved she'd make a bigger deal of it so I just leaned back into him with his chin on my shoulder. "But anyway, you said you wanted to talk about my magic so... what about it?"

"Well I just thought we should start working on it again," she said, hiding the pain in her eyes with one of her snide comments. "You know, now that neither of you idiots is the dark one and we're not in literal hell."

"Sounds good," I agreed, sidestepping her comment. "Thank you for the offer. When did you want to start then?"

"This afternoon works for me she shrugged, her eyes flickering to Killian and back to me. "If you're not busy that is. Then we could try to practice two or three times a week."

"That works," I assured her though I knew Killian would be disappointed. "Did you want to help us research or should I just meet you later?"

"I'll just let you know when to meet me," she shook her head as she stood up, clearing the tremble from her voice that signified tears. "I have to help Zelena with the baby and I get some things going at the office so I'll just..."

"Regina!" I called after her, squeezing Killian's hand before following her outside and stopping her on the sidewalk. "I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking. We were talking and when we went to sit down he just... and I... I guess I'm not very good at pulling away from him anymore."

"Anymore?" She scoffed, turning around with her mask of annoyance back on. "Miss Swan, never have you been good at pulling away from that man. Pretty much everyone else, save for Henry, but you've been making eyes at him probably since you met. I wasn't there, but I'm sure if I asked your mother she'd agree. You're delusional if you think you ever hid that well."

"Okay, maybe you're right," I allowed, her eyes flickering with surprise at the fact that I wasn't fighting her. "But I'm still sorry. We've never been very... public in our affections before and this is an awful time to be starting-"

"It's okay," she sighed, cutting me off and letting all pretense fall. "And I'm sorry, too. I shouldn't be so rude to you two, you've fought more for your relationship than probably anyone I know, including your parents. It just... hurts, you know?"
