18.
Skylar pulled up to the curb, across the street from the Shaw residence and put the car in park. We both looked to the side, watching the perimeter of the house. Two story attached home, a black iron gate surrounding the entrance and front garden that had no flowers left it in. The light in the front room was on as I saw a woman standing next to the window, her back turned to it.
"He has a wife?" Skye asked quietly, almost shocked.
"I have no idea." I shrugged my shoulder. "Guess I better go find out." I reached for the car door and unlocked it, stepping out and closed it behind me before trotting across the street, dodging a incoming car. I opened the gate quietly, my eyes catching Skye getting out of the car and taking a seat on the hood, a cigarette box coming out of her jacket pocket. I shook my head at her, and in response she flipped me the bird. She had quit months ago, I guess the stress of Bryan and the bar together is getting to her.
I turned around and went to the staircase, avoiding the window to my right and knocked on the door. I saw the curtain move by the window, but I snuck into the dark shadows of the doorway, the only way they could see me was if they opened the window and stuck their head out or by the peep hole of the door.
"Who could that be?" I heard the female whisper before footsteps approached the door.
I felt someone watching me from behind it so I stared directly at them. "I don't have all night, open up."
"Who is it?" I heard her ask.
"Jehovah's Witness."
There was a pause. "Not dressed like that you're not."
I couldn't but crack a chuckle. "I need to talk to Connor."
"He's not here right not."
I heard the hesitation in her voice, knowing she was lying. "He was just shot in the neck and he's not home resting? Bullshit. Tell him to meet me outside." I walked back downstairs, leaving the gate open and looked up at Skye who was taking a drag of her cancer stick.
"Is he coming out?" She asked in a low voice, but with my enhanced hearing I was about to hear it from across the street.
"Hopefully."
It only took a few seconds before I heard the sound of his voice and the door slamming shut from behind me. He flew down the stairs and I watched him do a double take of Skylar from across the street. He looked at her for a moment before turning to me, a rush of different emotions going through him making me raise an brow in curiosity.
"How dare you come to my house while I'm having dinner with my family." He spat at me.
I noticed his voice was different, probably from the gunshot, to which a large white patch was hiding the wound. "Just tell me where Alex's new hiding spot is and you can go back to chowing down."
"Are you kidding me?" I let out a huff. "You think I know?"
"I'm not stupid, Shaw."
"Obviously you are if you're looking to stick your nose into his whereabouts."
"You of all people should know I can take care of myself." I tilted my head to the side. "He put my brother in the hospital."
He paused for a moment, confusion in his eyes. "What? Seriously?" He shook his head. "For three grand?"
"Wait.." I shook my own head. "My brother owed him three g's?"
"That was the remainder of what he owed him, yeah. But I'm still not giving you the address, Arabella. You two should be keeping your noses clean. Now get out of here." He nudged his chin away from his house before he went to go upstairs.
