40.
Staring at the new map with new circles created, my mind was calculating a plan while Frank and Bryan were pulling up surveillance feed and reports of stolen cars. Clint was doing very well at covering his tracks. Ditching cars and getting new ones, moving away from cameras. The only one he did get caught in was at a diner. You could see in the video him parking the first car that he drove when taking Penelope, across from the gas station that was next to a diner. He changed his clothes out of a monkey suit and into a sweatshirt and jeans. His hood covered his head as he held Penelope's hand and steered her across the street and into the diner.
There was no hesitation in that little girl's body language whatsoever. No fear, no urge to run. Just her and that moose. He must have gained her trust somehow. She knew her father was dead, we had told her Clint died in a war. Though it was semi the truth, the war was against us and our government.
The video showed them about a half an hour later exiting the diner, Penny with a chocolate milkshake in hand as they walked towards the next stolen car, that was later ditched in Pennsylvania, four hours later. She could have ran, she could have told someone. But she didn't.
"You look hot when you bite your lip."
Aiden's hot breath was against my ear as he pressed a kiss against my temple, putting down another can of sprite in front of me while taking the empty one. I didn't realize I was biting my lip until he just pointed it out.
"Thanks." I muttered, licking my lower lip. Did I just say thanks? I shook my head and noticed Bryan watching our interaction from the corner of his eye.
I don't know what happened after I left them in New York, but Bryan has been acting very suspicious of Aiden. I noticed him watching him when he walked away, making me raise a brow but didn't say anything and rewinded the footage again, this time concentrating on Clinton.
My eyes began to burn after watching several videos over and over. I let out a sigh and rubbed my eyes hard, seeing the tiny black dots behind them before I finally stood up. I looked at Skye who was finally passed out on the couch. Frank was now on the phone with a friend of his, hoping they could get an eye on Clint. The trail went cold miles from here, leaving us with no clues on where his next stop could be or his final destination.
I walked into my old room, checking in on the sleeping vampire who was passed out underneath the blanket. I guess the tub was uncomfortable for him.
He had managed to put a blanket over the window to block out the small sun rays that shone through the trees, leaving the room almost pitch black.
I closed the door and moved onto my parent's old bedroom that was unoccupied for the time being. I needed a moment alone.
I ran the cold water in the sink, cupping my hands and splashing some on my face to wake me up a bit. I closed my eyes, feeling the small drops of water drip off my lashes before I turned off the water. As I leaned up and grabbed the hand towel to dry my face, the sight of Aiden leaning against the threshold of the bathroom in the mirror made me jump slightly. He's like a fucking cat.
He looked nervous as he watched me watching him through the mirror before I put the towel back on the rack.
"I was there that night." He said softly. "The night they shot Clint."
I froze in place, my mind going back to that night. The night Skye and I were checking out a case that was a dead end. I voted against her coming with me, since she was pregnant and about to burst, but she didn't take no for an answer. We didn't tell Clint, knowing he was going to get angry and would literally lock her in a closet until I got back from the hunt so she wouldn't follow me. But he tracked our phones, thats what he did for Project X, he was tracker. A damn good one at that.
