Aiden's POV
The room was cold, sending shivers down my body. Darkness enveloped me as the door slammed shut. My enhanced eyesight kicked in, leaving me to see just the empty room I was left in. The shackles they placed around my ankles and wrists were biting into my skin, leaving more bruises with the ones I already have.
I watched her jump over the fence, screaming my name as the guards took me away. She was safe now. Safe from the pain, the torture, the tyranny. Away from the walls, the guards, the orders. She was free.
That was the only thing that kept me going. That was my mission. Even if I never saw her again.
The metal chair underneath me was becoming more uncomfortable as the hours passed by. I didn't know how long I was in here for. Everything was silent. Only my breathing was heard as they cooled down the room for their own pleasure. I wasn't sure if I was being watched from the other end, nor did I care. I knew I was in shit. I was probably going to die because of this, but in the end, it was well worth it. I was ready for anything they gave me. The torture that was bound to follow, wanting to know where the others were heading. No way was I going to rat.
I let myself pass out. Not sure how long, but I awoke to the door opening and the lights flickered on. I squinted at the brightness, being in the dark for so long, it hurt my eyes. But the brightness wasn't the only thing that irritated my eyes, it was the woman that stood before me as well. Hands on her hips that were hugged in her usual grey pencil skirt. A black button down dress shirt, tucked into the waist. her dark red nails drummed against her hip as she stared down at me with disbelief. As if I betrayed her.
She barked one command, for the guards to leave, and they did so, like good little soldiers. Brainwashed for the facility's own good. Her heels clanked on the concrete floor as she stepped towards me, clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth.
"I should have known." She said, shaking her head. "I'm gone one day, ONE day, and this happens?" She huffed, her tongue running along her teeth.
She paced around the room. I didn't watch her though, even though I can tell she was slowly loosing it. All the patience, all the professionalism. It was eating at her.
"Where is she?" She asked, emphasizing on 'she'.
I tilted my head to the side a bit, still looking down at the ground. She wanted to know where Arabella was, not the others; Just her.
Her heels clicked over to me again as her cold fingers gripped my chin roughly, pulling my face up to meet hers and repeated her question, more angrily. As if that was going to get me to talk.
"You think I'm really going to tell you?"
Her grip on me tightened a bit more before she let go of me with a sigh. The back of her hand connected with the side of my cheek. I blinked with amusement, as if her assaults could somehow hurt me physically. I laughed to myself.
"That tickled." I smirked.
She growled in anger and slapped me again. "Do you have any idea what you have done!?" She yelled. "They're not going to be pleased when they find out she's missing."
There she goes again, spitting out them. She's always talking about the 'higher power' but never indulges on who they actually are. I never actually cared to ask, knowing she was never going to tell me, but it did have me wondering.
"When they realize what happened, they're going to make you responsible and make you pay for your actions, Aiden. Do you really want that?"
I licked my lips, ignoring the goosebumps that shivered down my body from the coldness. "Bring it."
