"kim taehyung, where the heck are you now?", i yelled into the phone, waiting for my best friend's answer. "somewhere.", he answered, his voice sounding monotone and lifeless. "oh come on, i don't believe a single word.", i scoffed. "i have to deal with that stupid, non-caring attitude of yours for three weeks now, and i'm sick of it! i'm sick of being worried all the time!", i said, my voice wavering. "i know that it's hard, but you have to stay calm! violence doesn't solve anything." "don't tell me what to do and what not. you're not my mother.", taehyung answered, obviously mad. "but i—", he hung up.
feeling frustrated, i threw my phone on the bed. i bit my lip, feeling hot tears roll down my cheeks. letting out a sob, i sat on the ground, face buried in my hands. it hurt me so much, seeing my best friend, the one i secretly loved, like this. so.. angry, full of hate. a knock on the door startled me, i heard my mother's voice. "(y/n), darling, what's wrong?" i didn't answer, as the sobs were hindering me from answering. "i'm coming in.", she announced and gasped when she opened the door, seeing her eldest daughter like this, a crying mess.
"what happened?!", she called out, getting next to me, cradling me in her arms. after a while, my sobs became quieter, until i finally calmed down. taking a deep and shaky breath, i told my mother about my discussion, more like argument with taehyung. she knew about my feelings for him, so she hugged me tightly and said: "i know that it's hard to understand, but maybe he's going through some rough times now. didn't you tell me that he has problems with his father?" i nodded, wiping my eyes. "i'm just worried, mom. what if.. what if he does something he'll regret later? i—i'm afraid i might lose him.."
my mother helped me to get up and smiled. "i'm sure that everything will be fine. now, you'll have a warm cappuccino to calm down, and then let's just wait for what's to happen." that's what i loved about my mother. she always knew the most simple yet most effecting ways to calm me down. i sat at the kitchen table, wrapped in a blanket. soon, my little sister stormed downstairs. "mom! guess what! i got an invitation for (g/n)'s birthday party!", the 14-year-old girl shouted. i nodded weakly and said: "have fun, (s/n), okay?" in an instant, she sat across me and asked: "eonni, what's the matter? you seem sad!" i waved it off, not wanting to burden the younger with my problems. "i just had an argument with a friend of mine, nothing serious." "well, i hope for you that you two work out things soon!", (s/n) giggled before jumping upstairs again.
"she's so full of energy.", i stated. my mother placed the hot cup of cappuccino in front of me and said: "and you're not leaving this room until you finished drinking this cappuccino." nodding, i took the steaming bowl in my hands, enjoying the heat radiating off it. all of a sudden, the door bell rang. my mother got up to answer it. soon after, i heard her voice, laced with surprise: "taehyung?! what are you doing here?" i flinched. great, now, when i sat here with red, puffy eyes and pale skin, he needed to visit me. what did he even want?
my thoughts got interrupted by him walking into the kitchen, making me look up to face him. there he stood, wearing a black shirt, black jeans, the hood of his jacket pulled over his head. "what do you want?", i asked, looking at my drink again. the last thing i wanted to let him see was my current state. "i'll leave the two of you alone for now!", my mother said cheerfully in an attempt to lighten the mood, which didn't work that much.
