part 2 of the evil series.
—
the night was cold, and dark. only the moon and stars sprinkled over the sky alighted the wide, open landscape. nearby, a wood was there to see. and inside this wood, lived many creatures, unbeknownst to mankind. among all of them, was a boy, no, young man. his hair was of a light, blondish color, his eyes dark, occasionally shining yellow. this young man was alone, all alone. each and every one of the creatures living in the forest despised him, ignored and left him. it wasn't the blond whom they were scared of. no, it was what he could turn into. they all saw it at least once, and it made them shiver with fear. it was the evil slumbering beneath the young man's skin.

"never go into the woods! you know what happened to your parents!"
that's what my grandmother used to tell me all the time. she would sit in her old chair, a blanket draped over her legs, raising her forefinger at me. despite all of this, her eyes would show nothing else than love and warmth towards me. i, who was merely 10 years old at that time, had always felt save and sound around her. the smell of ashes coming from the fireplace, the scent of freshly baked cookies, my grandfather smoking his daily cigarette, all of this created a part of my childhood memories.
my grandparents took me in after my parents died in the woods. now, you may be wondering how one can die in the woods? i can tell you. they walked into the woods, and were found dead outside a day after. the police told my grandma that it looked like they were bitten to death. little me had decided to eavesdrop back then and since this day, i would not even dare to take a step inside the woods. who knows what's in there. also, this happening had lead to me having the most horrible of nightmares after, nightmares which would make me wake up with a piercing cry, staring into the darkness, with tears rolling down my chubby cheeks.
now, since i grew up, the nightmares just disappeared. i became more independent, more mature, and cared for my grandparents, wanting to show the most of gratitude towards them as i could, until they died. the ceremony was been held on a rainy, foggy day, and a lot of people came to bade their farewells. my grandparents were not also well known, but also highly respected and loved by nearly the whole town. men and women i had never seen before came to give me their condolences, and i took all of them, with a straight, emotionless face. the last thing i had ever wanted was letting the world know how sad, how despaired and broken i really was.
that was the day i saw him for the first time in my life. the young man stood a bit afar from the scene, but his eyes were glued on the guests attending the funeral, on the two caskets standing there. i had never seen him before. his light blond hair, his dark, nearly black eyes, full lips, all of this was unfamiliar to me. as if knowing that i stared at him, he turned his head to face me, and i could have sworn that his eyes lit up in a yellowish color for a millisecond. then, he jerked around and walked away in a fast, steady tempo, leaving me utterly confused.
"(y/n), are you okay?", a soft voice asked, and i turned to face my aunt, clad in a black costume, her eyes shining with nothing but sorrow and sadness. "y-yes, i am.", i managed to choke out, but i knew that i wasn't. i had been under the protection of my grandparents for as long as i knew. sure, it was clear that i had to grow up someday, that they would leave me on my own, but i didn't expect it to be this harsh. i didn't know what i was supposed to do now. selling the house? moving elsewhere? no, i couldn't do that, my grandparents had loved the old mansion, i couldn't.
