like day and night, like fire and ice, like black and white. exactly the opposite from each other, yet they were destined to be together.
— (y/n)'s p.o.v.
the ruffling of the soft sheets filled the dark room as i got up, after being forcefully awoken by the alarm clock. "whoever thought that it's a good idea to let school start at 7 am shall rot in hell.", i hissed while walking out of the bedroom straight into the bathroom. after taking a shower and getting dressed into black pants and a dark grey sweatshirt, i walked downstairs into the kitchen, hoping to get a good 3-shot espresso, the only thing keeping me awake at this time.
"good morning, (y/n).", my mother greeted sleepily. "looking forward to attending your new school?" i shrugged. "school is school, i just hope i don't have to wear a school uniform anymore. i mean, this is my last year." my mother sighed. "if you have to wear one, you will wear one. if you don't, then not." "whatever, i'm gonna leave now, don't wanna be late.", i said while grabbing my rucksack and walking outside. "(y/n), wait! are you free this afternoon? can you please take care of (s/n)? i'll be on a meeting and your father has something to do too." "yeah, no problem."
— (jin's p.o.v.)
"good morning students. today you will get to know a new class mate. she recently moved to seoul, please be nice to her.", as soon as the teacher finished, the door opened, revealing a girl. a gasp went through the classroom at her appearance.
her hair was dyed in a light blue, falling over her chest in thick locks. she wore black, ripped jeans and a loose fitting sweatshirt. but the most outstanding things surely were the piercings clinging to her lips and ears, making her look slightly intimidating. her feline-like eyes scanned the classroom, seeming to stare at everyone. her plump lips curled up in a soft smile, showing that she actually got dimples."might you introduce yourself, please?", our teacher said, voice laced with disbelief. "sure. so, hello, my name is (n/n) (y/n), i'm 18 years old and moved with my parents and little sister from daegu to seoul. i really hope we get along!", she said in a light, angelic voice and bowed down, surprising everyone who judged her from her looks only.
"it's nice to meet you, miss (n/n). please take a seat next to jin, over there in the back." wait, what?! she was going to sit next to me?! oh god. when she sat next to me, i instantly moved a couple of centimeters away, creating a bit of space between us. she raised an eyebrow and started to place her school materials on the desk next to mine. when the lesson went on, i couldn't help but stare at her, her blue hair covering up most of her face, until she tucked some strands behind her ear. her bottom lip was in a slight pout, the metal of her piercings reflecting the sunlight that was shining through the window. she was truly a goddess.
yet i didn't want to fall for her, to become closer to her. the last time i did that, i lost that person and was on my own, caught up in breathtaking sadness. too soon, the school bell rang, signalizing the end of the school day. (y/n) stood and grabbed her rucksack before facing me and flashing a smile that showed off her pearly, white teeth. "nice to get to know you, jin.", her voice reached my ears, as she bowed down one last time before leaving the room. i was taken aback. (y/n) was a girl i never met before, a girl i found to be so interesting.
oh, how much i wished to talk to my best friends now, telling them about (y/n) and listen to their lame jokes and advice on how to ask a girl like her out. a deep sigh escaped my lips as i realized i had been spacing out again, trying to get back the past. it would never be the same as before, not after our parting, our countless arguments, leaving me stressed out and easy to get mad.

"more!", my little sister cheered happily as i gently pushed the swing a bit more, careful not to be too forceful. i didn't want her to get hurt, after all. (s/n)'s cheerful laughter echoed over the playground, as we were the only ones here at this time. a couple of minutes later, i stopped pushing the swing and scooped her in my arms, holding her tight. no words could describe how much i adored my little sister. she was sunshine itself, brightening up my day without even knowing it. "what about a short walk, little one?", i asked playfully and she nodded, her little pigtails hopping up and down in the process.
when we got back from the walk, i saw a familiar figure sitting on a bench, face buried in his jacket, yet i could clearly see who it was. one of my new class mates, jin, the one i sat next to today. still holding my sister in my arms, i approached him. "hey, you're alright?", i asked, voice laced with concern, even slightly worried. he jerked up, his auburn eyes widening in surprise. "(y/n), what, why, how?", his gaze darted to (s/n). "is that your daughter?", he asked nervously, causing me to laugh. "of course not! that's my sister, (s/n). say hi!" (s/n) waved her chubby hands in front of jin's face and squealed: "hello!"
jin raised an eyebrow but smiled at her. "hi there." "so, jin, what's the matter?" his smile faded as fast as it reached his face and he looked down, sadness taking over. "i'm just not feeling good." "i have the feeling that there's more adding up to that. might you want to tell me over it at my place? it's right around the corner, and my parents aren't home too." "you're just inviting a stranger over to your place?", jin asked me. "no, as you're not a stranger, you're my class mate, plus i think you're nice. so, what's your answer now?"
jin gulped before nodding and followed me. soon after, we reached my home, and i opened the door. "there we are, make yourself a home." he slipped off his coat and followed into the kitchen, where i started to prepare my sister's dinner. as soon as she finished eating, i tucked her into bed, and she fell asleep pretty fast.
"so, now we can talk. sorry for being busy earlier.", i said, tucking a strand of blue hair behind my ear. jin looked down at the table as if it was incredibly interesting. "well, it might seem silly and childish, but i miss my friends. a couple of years ago, we were the closest, but now, things have changed. some of them have started to do illegal things, or started to drink, smoke and such. i can't reach out to them, it's like i don't know who they are anymore. since ever, i have been feeling so sad and depressed.", he blurted out and i listened to him all the time, before reaching out, tracing my fingers over his skin.
"i know that feeling all too well.", i said and smiled weakly at him. "this is why i look the way i look. one of my former friends always insulted me, trying to lower my self-confidence. i wanted to show her that i had my own mind and starting changing my outer looks. right now, i feel good the way i look like now. maybe you should just try to approach your friends. maybe you look out for the one who seems to be the most rational out of them, trying to talk, to get to them. i'd also like to help you, if that's alright.", i spoke, my smile growing more radiant by every minute passing by.
he broke, collapsed in tears, letting his emotions run, showing me how vulnerable he was. i stood up and walked over to him, wrapping my arms around his frame, letting him feel my warmth. he leant against me, buried his face in my shoulder, his tears wetting my shirt, but i couldn't care less. all i wanted was for jin to know, that he wasn't on his own. i wanted to help him regain his happiness, find his friends again,
that's the least i could do.
