“What is the matter with you?”
Jamie looked at me. “Hmm?”
“Oh, for the love of God,” I snapped. “You haven’t been listening to me, have you?”
“No,” Jamie said apologetically. “What were you saying?”
“You seem really down,” I repeated. “What’s wrong? We just won the tournament of the year, we’re going out clubbing which is one of your favourite things to do, and Mason’s going to be meeting us there. So what is up?”
“Nothing,” Jamie shrugged. “Just having a rough day.”
I snorted. “Yeah, you’re having a rough day.”
The taxi pulled up outside the club and everyone piled out, Jamie and myself included. “Ugh,” I groaned. “Clubs.”
Jamie seemed to cheer up a little bit then. “Come on, you,” she told me. “You owe me a dance anyway, as you’ve been sociable at multiple parties while I haven’t been here.”
“Mergh,” I grumbled, before she dragged me inside. I hadn’t even seen Jenna yet, or had a drink, and yet I found myself dancing with my best friend. “Oh well,” I sighed to myself, lightening up a bit.
“What?” Jamie asked loudly, over the music.
“Nothing,” I replied at the same volume. “Just enjoying myself for once.”
“Has hell frozen over?” Jamie teased. “Someone should call Satan and check.”
“You’re a tool,” I snorted.
Jamie smirked.
“I didn’t mean tool,” I said hastily. “I meant idiot. Moron. Whatever!”
Suddenly, I noticed Mason behind Jamie, ready to put his hands over her eyes. I knew she hated that, so I went, “Oh hello Mason!”
He glared at me. “Thanks, Logan, thanks a lot.”
“You’re welcome,” I grinned. “Right, now you have arm-candy, can I go and get a drink?”
“Sure,” Jamie sighed, rolling her eyes. “Get me a lemonade, please?”
“Sure,” I nodded, and headed towards the bar. Jenna was sat at the bar, looking into a drink. “Penny for your thoughts,” I said, sitting beside her.
She laughed. “They’re not worth a penny. I was just thinking that…well, it’s the last night here.”
“That it is,” I nodded.
“When we get back, it’s all going to change,” she sighed. “I’m just worried.”
“About what?” I asked her. “What do you think is going to change?”
She hesitated. “This. Us. Whatever.”
“Ah,” I said, nodding. “You think we’re going to break up because it’s different at home. I see your point.”
She sighed. “Are we together?”
“Yes,” I said, rolling my eyes. “Unless you didn’t mean what you said to my parents.”
“Did they go home?”
I nodded. “Yep. Preferably forever.”
“You don’t mean that,” Jenna sighed. “Surely.”
