Another lovely chapter from Immy. Hope you are all enjoying this story and so sorry for the sad bits in it because I know many of you weren't expecting that. So here you are. Thank Immy for writing this lovely chapter by checking out her work via the dedication! ~~~
I unlocked the door, and stepped inside. “Ah,” I breathed, relishing the cold air as my heater hadn’t been switched on for three weeks. “Freedom.”
“It can’t be that horrible at Coby’s,” Jenna laughed, walking past me with a bag. “Honestly.”
“Try sharing a house with a kid,” I snorted. “I love Seth but if I hear him scream again I’ll punch him.”
Jenna rolled her eyes. “Where do you want this bag?”
“Wherever,” I said offhandedly, so she dumped it in the middle of the room. “Thanks for helping me bring everything over. Though it wasn’t necessary.”
Jenna shrugged. “I didn’t see you the other day, so I wanted to come with you today. Plus, I had to check you bought food. Wouldn’t want you starving again.”
“God,” I groaned. “No one is ever going to let me forget it, either. I’m fairly sure my fridge will be so packed I won’t be able to stop eating for the rest of my life.”
“Good,” Jenna grinned, and then noticed my face. “Lighten up.”
“No,” I said sulkily.
She touched the corners of my mouth and pulled them into a smile. I smiled properly, if a little reluctantly, pulling away from her.
“Come on,” she pleaded. “What’s wrong?”
“Jamie,” I sighed.
“Oh,” Jenna said, frowning. “Is she alright?”
“She’s fine,” I said, then corrected myself. “As fine as can be expected.”
“So what’s the problem?” Jenna asked.
I sighed again. “She picked out my bridesmaid dress.”
“Really?” Jenna asked, as we both collapsed on my sofa. “What’s it like?”
I hadn’t been able to get the image out of my head for days. “Purple. It’s horrible. Well, it’s a lovely dress. It looks horrible on me.”
“Have you got it with you?” Jenna asked.
I nodded, indicating the dress hanger with the cover over it. “In there.”
“Try it on,” Jenna grinned immediately.
I snorted. “Like hell I will. You’ll see me in it at the wedding and that is all.”
“Go on,” she urged, prodding me in the leg. “Go on, you know you want to.”
Never had a statement been less true.
“Go on,” she pleaded, when I told her this. “Please?”
“No,” I said flatly.
She looked at me, making her eyes big with sorrow. “For me?”
“Bitch,” I muttered, and then sighed. “Fine, if it’ll make you happy. But you’re not allowed to laugh or pass any form of comment.”
“Fine,” Jenna said, pleased. “Go on, go and change.”
“Fine,” I sighed, getting up. “I’ll come back through when I’m done.”
I was unzipping the clothes cover when she spoke tentatively, so quietly I wasn’t sure if she’d actually said anything. “Change here.”
“Sorry, what?” I asked, turning around to smile at her, as I hadn’t quite heard her properly.
