Another Immy chapter, hope you enjoy it! She got this up in just a couple of hours, so I hope you enjoy all her hard work. You can find her via the dedication!

What hurt me most wasn’t that Jamie was sick, it was that she was lying to me.

“She’s probably not lying to you,” Chrysta said fairly. “I mean, the story seems convincing, and why would Jamie lie to you? She’s your best friend.”

I shook my head. “No, she’s lying to me. I know she thinks I’m convinced but I’m not, Chrysta. That girl is sick beyond a back problem, I know she is.”

“Logan, she was definitely here because of her back,” Mason said reasonably. Jamie had sent us all home, as the rest of the sport-trip members were on their way back home. We were in a taxi. I still hadn’t heard from Jenna.

“I’m not denying that,” I said flatly. “But there’s no way that’s the only reason. She hit her back on a counter or something, that can’t have done much. It was Noah for Christ’s sake; she’s got as much strength as a mouse.”

Mason smiled slightly.

“So yes, while I know she’s in here now because of her back, what about the other times?” I challenged him.

“What other times?” he asked, confused.

“I knew something was going on,” I said, practically ignoring him. “I mean, the girl’s gone AWOL on me for ages but it’s all coming together now. She never drinks – and I’m not saying she was an alcoholic before but she liked a drink at parties.”

“True,” Chrysta allowed.

“And she was in the hospital the other day,” I said. “My brother saw them – and he can make up whatever crap he wants about her being in there for her back. Jamie doesn’t do hospitals, Jamie doesn’t like doctors; there’s no way Jamie would ever let her parents take her into hospital for something like her back.”

“Well, what do you think is wrong with her?” Mason asked.

“I don’t know, you tell me,” I snapped at him. “She’s probably told you, for God’s sake.”

Mason blinked. “Whatever it is you think she’s hiding from you, she’s hiding it from me too. Logan, she hasn’t told me anything. I know just as much as you do.”

I never really spoke to Mason, he wasn’t in my circle and therefore I never communicated with him unless Jamie was in between us. However he was never intentionally mean to me like his friends were, and he wasn’t stupid.

“Fine,” I sighed, as I knew he was being truthful. “I’m not joshing you, Mason, there’s something wrong with that girl and for whatever reason, she’s keeping it from me. Now she can keep it from you two if you’re fine with that, but there’s no way she’s keeping it from me. I’m her best friend and I will know what’s wrong with her.”

“She probably has her reasons,” Chrysta began.

“No,” I said firmly. “When I left my parents’ house, she knew exactly what was happening from the very first instance. Not because I wanted to tell her, but because she deserved to know why I was sulking. I deserve to know why she’s in a hospital fucking bed.”

“Mason, your stop,” Chrysta said, pulling up outside Mason’s house.

“I’ll get out here,” I told her. “I only live round the corner and I fancy a walk.”

“Alright,” Chrysta said. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

I paused. “Will you?”

She knew what I meant; would she act like she was a friend of mine or would we go back to being enemies?
