Things between Jacob and I slowly became more normal and natural. We were able to joke and mess around but we never talked about the night I staid at his house. The night was full of secrets and entamate detail but still we pretended it never happened. I waited for Jacob to bring it up - mention something from that night. But he never said a word and we never staid in the same room again. Even though we both knew that we needed each other, needed the other there to take away the nightmares and fear that crept into our hearts after the lights went out and our thoughts were all we had for company.
Tossing in my sheets, I flipped onto my side and looked for my phone. It was four in the morning and there was no hope in me falling back to sleep. It was the first day of senior year and I was dreading every minute of it. Reluctantly, I flung back my sheets and placed my feet on the cold wood floors and stood. My clothes were laid out on the chair beside my desk. There were a pair of sea-foam green jeans with a cozy knit sweater, it was very simply but my aunt Alice was not pleased with it.
After dressing, I pulled on my black rain boots and snuck out my window to take a walk before I drove myself to school. The sky was black and there was thick fog, making it hard to see around me. None-the-less, I headed into the mist, at an attempt to clear the fear and confusion from my thoughts.
"Nessie?" It was Jacob. "Is that you?"
Relief seemed to release the tension that had built up in my shoulders. "Yes. What are you doing out here?"
His figure emerged from the mystical fog, "Couldn't sleep, I came to check on you." He froze in front of me. "Why are you up?"
"Same. I've given up on sleeping...So I thought I'd take a walk." I smiled and closed the space between us, wrapping my arms around his waist.
He embraced the hug, placing one hand on the back of my head and the other across my back. Resting his head on the top of mine, he exhaled sharply with relief. I knew he needed this, needed to know I was safe and with him. His lips pressed into my hair, "Can I come?"
"Always." I pulled away and headed down the small trail, which lead through the forest.
Jacob followed without hesitation, "So...what's keeping you up tonight?"
His question was a little frustrating for me, we both knew what was keeping me awake. Instead of being frustrated with him, I lied, "Nervous for senior year. School starts in a few hours."
There was disappointment in Jacob's body as his shoulders slumped forward and his gaze fell, "Yeah, but you are going to do great. The year will fly by."
"I hope so. I want out of Forks."
Jacob stopped, "What?"
Stopping, I looked back at Jacob, "Well after this year me and the family can move somewhere new, start a new life, or go to Alaska and meet up with the rest of the family. There are too many memories here."
"Oh. Okay." His body began to tremble as he took a step back.
"Did I upset you?" I reached out my hand to stop him from moving away.
Jacob pulled back, "I need to go check on some pack stuff. We have a meeting this morning."
"Wait...What?"
"Can you make it back alright?"
"I'll be fine...but..."
He turned and ran into the fog before I could get another word out.
"Bye..." Frustrated and confused, I turned back towards the house and stomped home.
As the cottage came into view, I spotted my parents coming from the main house. My dad came to my side instantly, "Why are you up so early darling?"
