B- Callie, it's an emergency. I need you. Room 489. Come quick.

Her phone came off sleep mode and these words appeared across the screen, along with beep that echoed through the quite walls. Callie had her hand on the doorknob of the nursery as it went off. She winced at the fact that the noise might cause Colleen and Em to fall out of their sleepy haze. The girls were in their cribs, ready for their nap.

Callie hurriedly, but quietly, tiptoed away from the door and traveling back into their bedroom, planting down on the desk chair before grabbing her phone out of the back pocket in her dark wash jeans. She saw the text message from Brandon and was instantly confused. If it was an emergency, would he say it in a text? And what kind of emergency would need her to be in 'room 489'? Did he run out of his favorite pencils or something? She chuckled slightly to herself.

c- What?

She replied, wondering what the hell he meant. Again, what kind of emergency? If it was an emergency at all?

B- Please. I need your help.

More words flashed in the little gray box from Brandon.

C-  Can't leave. I just put the kids down. What's wrong?

Callie texted again. If only he wasn't so damn stubborn and would just tell her what was happening.

B- Is Ruby home? Just tell her to sit on the couch and watch tv for 30 minutes. If you just put them down, they'll be asleep for the next two hours.

Ruby was a several years older than them and lived in the apartment that was below Brandon and Callie's. They had briefly befriended each other from elevator rides and chatting about the weather, which eventually graduated to other topics. She also happened to be a nurse in the ER at the hospital Callie was treated at, Callie gave birth at, and that cared for Colleen when she became a circus animal and rolled across the floor, not to mention when Callie cut her finger with a knife. Ruby had always offered her help, if and when they were to need anything.

C- No. I don't want to. We barely know her. What do you need?

Brandon was not going to take that for an answer. Callie was getting very annoyed and aggravated that he would tell her a single thing.

B- It's an emergency. I need you. Room 489. Hurry please.

She stomped her foot on the ground like a three year old, grunted, slipped her phone back in her pocket, and reluctantly shoved the first shoes she could find onto her feet, grabbed the monitor, and marched out the door, into the elevator, and down one floor. She walked towards the correct door, knocked, and was greeted by a cheerful Ruby. All of their previous encounters included Ruby in an unexplainably happy mood. Neither Brandon or Callie knew why she was always giddy or giggly or perky or disgustingly smart. Callie politely asked her if she was free for the next half an hour and she immediately accepted the request, exchanging phone numbers as a precautionary measure before she headed up.

Callie got back onto the elevator, hesitant to even leave her children in the hands of someone they knew very little about. On the way down though, Callie did look Ruby up on the internet, reading the commentary the staff at the hospital she works out said about her. People said she was kind-hearted, thorough, an excellent nurse, one of the most requested nurses from patients, etc.

Callie took a cab to Juilliard, still having the word 'emergency' engraved in her mind. She still wondered what he was talking about. What was so important? Once she got to the campus, she followed the signs in the hallways that directed to the classrooms with the numbers 400 through 499. This place was giant, no wonder that had more than 499 classrooms, not mentioning the concert halls and who knows what else.
