Tyler

I walked into the offices.

I have no idea why I was here.

I just knew  that I had to be here.

I had to warn her about her parents.

I over heard voices.

"I can't believe Shelby's pregnant!" One voice said.

"Me neither. I can't believe that she's engaged, too!" Another said.

I smiled.

I was proud of her.

Granted, I was kinda sad.

I still loved her, but she deserved to be happy.

Even if it wasn't with me.

I looked up to see a shadow.

I knew that shadow.

"So, you're getting married and starting a family, eh?" I said.

I could feel  her shiver.

I regret saying that now.

"What are you doing here?"

"Listen, I honestly came here to apologize. You can call Max over here if you want."

I hesitated, but responded.

"What did you come here to say?" She moved her hands towards her stomach.

She had a bump.

It was true.

"I'm really sorry, and congratulations to your new family member. I'm sure you and Max would make great parents to your child." I said.

"Is that all? I need to do something." She seemed slightly annoyed.

"There's something else that I need to tell you." I have to tell her.

"Which is?"

"It's about your parents." I told her.

"What about them?"

"Please, don't visit them. I know you don't want to hear this, but they made me do that to you. They offered to pay me to find you. I declined, but they know that you're in Washington. Keep the baby away from them."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"I know them. They don't know you're pregnant, and they also don't know about your youtube channel. But, they want you back in New York. And not to make celebrate." I pulled the side of my shirt with the bruise. "They hit me. Both of them."

"I hate to say it, but you kind of deserved that."

"I know I did. And to make up for it, I am giving you and Max some money to help raise your child."

I knew that I had money on me.

I just got back from the ATM.

I'm going to move back to Canada.

Get a fresh start.

I grabbed my wallet and got a few hundreds out.

I brought 10 hundreds with me.

I sorted through them and got 6.

I held them in my hand.

"Wow. Thanks." She paused. "Is there anything else?"

My throat started to burn.

I was going to cry.

I held it back as much as I could.  "D-d-do you k-know the gender?"

She gave me a warm smile "One boy, one girl."

"Twins?" My voice broke.

"Yeah."

"Here-" I handed her the money.

"Thank you." She was barely audible.

I overstayed my welcome.

I turned around and walked towards the exit.

I opened the door midway, but stopped.

I don't want to ruin Shelby's life by seeing her constantly.

I knew I had to leave.

But I can't leave without telling her.

"Hey, Shelby?" I said.

"Yes?"

"I know this is meaningless now, but, I love you. I don't think I can stop."

"For what it's worth, I loved you for a while." She told me.

I smiled.

At least I did something right.

For a while, at least.

"Thank you, for everything you did."

"I guess I owe you a thank you, as well."

What?

Why?

"You were the one who got me to start youtube, even if you forced me to. But you also got me to meet Max. And because of that, I'm forever grateful." She told me.

I nodded at her, then left.

I was ready to go to Canada.

But, I had to pack from my hotel.

I crossed the street to get to my car.

Once I started the engine, I realized that I forgot the most important thing.

I had a letter for Max.

It was an apology to him. I wanted to apologize for what I did to Shelby, but to him.

And I wanted him to tell me if they needed me to pay for anything.

I was willing to, anyway.

Even if they're not my kids.

I turned the engine off and walked back towards the building.

I smiled knowing everything was going to back to normal.

Shelby could live her life, and I could live mine.

I ran towards the building now, eager to get the letter to Max.

But within a blink of an eye-

I saw a car.

I saw blood.

Then I saw nothing.

I saw nothing but a Shelby.

Except, something was different.

This wasn't actually her.

"What's happening?" I asked 'Shelby'.

"You're dying." She told me.

I guess my life wasn't good enough to live.

But now Shelby can live hers.

And that's all that really matters.
