She put her favorite cap on backwards after straightening her hair with an iron. She put on her black tank top, sweatpants and DC sneakers before grabbing her skateboard and left the house early in the morning, before her parents could wake up. Even though it was the beginning of September, it still felt like Summer, it was warm and sunny, and Vienna loved it.

She had another nightmare. It kept her up until dawn, then she decided to run away from it for a bit.

Quickly, in a matter of minutes, she found herself in the skate park, all alone, with no one else to be found. Or she thought so. She quickly launched herself towards the ramp and started doing flips, kickflips, ollies, railslides, etc. She barely even noticed how much time had passed, she lost herself in the thing she loved doing the most.

She got her first skateboard when she was around twelve. Her dad bought her one after he noticed she always borrowed her boy friend's skates to ride around the neighbourhood. He wanted her to have her own and to ride it together with her friends. She learned the tricks really fast and became a master at it.

She eventually got tired and decided to sit down on a ramp and lose herself in her own mind. She was staring at the blue sky until loud and unfamiliar voices made her snap out of her wandering thoughts. She didn't want to turn around, didn't want to seem rude or nosy so she just kept playing it cool, even though she was getting kind of nervous. All she wanted was some time alone to think and then someone comes and invades.

Oh no, Vienna, silly girl. The skate park is a public place, of course people can come and use it. It's not yours and you can't decide or get mad if somebody comes and skates. - she thought. - Just take a deep breath and hope they aren't going to approach you and talk to you.

Being antisocial and anxious weren't the girl's best traits but she knew she couldn't do anything about it. She was trapped. It was either to hurt people or get hurt, and she didn't like hurting others.

The voices grown louder and louder by each moment until she realized the persons they belonged to were standing right behind her.

-Okay, Phoebs, you go first. - a female voice said.

-Okay, but don't laugh if I fall down. It's only my second time. - another voice which also belonged to a female replied.

-I won't, I promise. Kyle will keep an eye.

-Let's go. - the third voice, which now belonged to a boy suddenly shouted which startled Vienna.

Two skateboarders, the boy and one blonde girl slid down the ramp and began doing tricks and talking. Vienna just watched them, unable to move from her spot. She heard the third voice laughing and shouting things from behind her to the couple, until the female figure sat down right next to her. Vienna refused to look at the girl, but she certainly felt the girl's eyes on her. It made her insides turn. She never liked it when somebody stared at her, it made her feel uncomfortable. Even though everybody told her how beautiful she looked and how she should be more confident, Vienna couldn't help but feel the exact opposite.

-Hey. - the girl spoke.

-Hey. - Vienna half- whispered.

-Nice cap.

-Thanks.

-You skate for a while? - the brunette turned around to look at Vienna's skate.

-Seven years.

-Oh, cool. What's your name?

-Vienna.

The other girl laughed out loud in a mocking way which made Vienna clench her fists. - Vienna? Seriously?!

-Yes. You got a problem with that?! - she finally managed to look at the other girl and just the sight of her face made her stomach churn again.

-No, not at all. It's just... Your name is so weird. Who names a child by a city?

Vienna scoffed. -What's your name?

-I'm Ruby.

Vienna laughed on purpose to reflect on the other girl's previous reaction.

-What? - Ruby raised an eyebrow.

-Ruby? Really? Who names a child by a gemstone?

-Ha ha ha. Whatever. - Ruby rolled her eyes playfully, then started shouting things like "well done" and "go, Phoebe" to the girl skating on the ramp.

-Your accent is weird. Where are you from?

Ruby looked at Vienna with a hint of seduction in her eyes, then slowly leaned in towards the other girl's ear and whispered: - Curiosity kills the cat. - she winked and stood up, leaving Vienna a bit confused.

She watched as Ruby slid down the ramp too and started messing around with the other girl which she assumed was named Phoebe. She slowly got up from her sitting position and walked away towards the Tattoo studio in the neighbourhood.

Let's just say she had no idea how to explain another sleeve tattoo on her left arm and a "Fight Your Demons" tattoo on her chest. Her parents didn't really approve of any of the tattoos but she always somehow managed to pursue them to forgive her because she was young and wanted to try new things.

But that didn't worry her at that moment. The thought that couldn't stop crossing her mind was how that girl was confident, self- centered and egoistic. She never liked those kinds of people, but then again, why couldn't she stop thinking about her?

I should probably stop, I'm never going to see her again, anyway.
