Ollie's POV
I park the car outside the ED, and we rush to the entrance, where Jac is waiting for us. Zosia called her on the way here, because Jac knows Connie well, meaning Penny will get the best treatment.
"What happened?" Jac asked, "you sounded distraught on the phone."
"There's something wrong with Penny; she's boiling hot, and she's had 2 fits." Zosia explains, shaking. "Jac, Jac you can't let her die, I can't loose my baby girl." She cries.
"Zosia, it's okay. Penny's going to be fine." Jac soothes, "come on, we need to get her seen."
The three of us walk into the busy ED, and Jac takes us straight over to Connie.
"Jac," she smiles, "how are you?"
"No time for small talk Connie, we've got a sick baby here." Jac says, getting straight down to business. "One month old baby, she's had two seizures, and her temperature's sky high."
Connie takes a look at Penny, and realising how ill she looks, she takes us straight to resus.
"Ethan, Robyn, Charlie, you're with me." She calls. "We've got a critical infant, we need all hands on deck."
She takes Penny from Zosia, and lays her on the bed, immediately hooking her up to all sorts of machines.
"Okay Dr March, we need some background information. How is her health in general?"
"She's fine, erm, she had colic about a week ago, but that's all better now." Zosia says, "She was born a month premature, but the doctors said she was fine."
"No allergies or anything?"
"No, none." I say.
"Temperature's  39.4, Connie." Charlie says.
"Okay, we need to get a line in, and she needs something to bring her temperature down. And Robyn, book an MRI, tell them it's urgent." Connie instructs.

"Yes Mrs Beauchamp." They all say in sync, before they start doing their allocated jobs. As she tries to put a cannula in, Penny starts to fit again.

"Okay, she's going again. Everyone keep her still." Connie says, keeping calm.

Zosia starts crying again, and I know she can't bare to watch, so, despite her protests, I take her to the relatives room, and sit her down.

"She can't die Ollie, she can't. I can't loose her." Zosia cries, "she's been through so much already! Promise me she'll be alright Ollie."

I sigh. As much as I want to comfort Zosia, I can't give her false hope. "They're all doing their best Zosh. Our girl's a fighter, she'll come through this." I say, my eyes filling up. I put my arm around her, and she buries her head into my chest, crying. We sit like this for a few minutes; both of us silently sobbing, before the door opens.

"Zosia, Ollie, one of you needs to come with me." Jac says, "they want to sedate Penny before her scan, but they need consent."

"Sedate her?" I gasp, "surely she's not that bad?"

"She's has two more seizures, and they don't want her to have one in the scanner, so they think this is for the best." Jac explains.

I nod, and me and Zosia get up, and follow Jac to resus. I cry even more as I see Penny lying there, lifeless; machines doing everything for her. We sign the form, and they wheel Penny away, leaving me, Jac and Zosia in resus.

Ten minutes or so later, Connie comes back into the room, without Penny.

"Where is she? Where's my daughter? She's not, she's not dead is she?" Zosia says frantically.

"No, no, nothing like that!" Connie reassures, "the scan showed nothing wrong with the brain, so she's been sent to NICU to be monitored, until they can find out the cause of the fits. She's still sedated, because when we took her off it after the scan she was having some trouble breathing. That's also being looked into. The doctors upstairs will be able to tell you more." Connie said before walking away.

"She's going to die." Zosia says, crying.

"No." I say, "she's not going to die, she'll be absolutely fine. You'll see, she'll be home by the end of the week." I say, more for my sake than Zosia's. Everything's so surreal, we were happy this morning, and now we've got a daughter in intensive care

"Come on." I say, "let's go and see her. She shouldn't be alone up there."  Zosia nods, and we head up to NICU  to see our daughter.

Not sure about this, but it's better than nothing✨
