REVISION COMPLETE 11/15/24: Alright, so the plot is definitely evolving now. My apologies for such long periods. This isn't exactly my priority at the moment, with college and whatnot. But it's still so much fun rewriting this! Hope you enjoy!

Side note: I've also decided to spend some time creating the actual plot of the upcoming chapters, as well as world build this time. That way everything remains decently consistent!

DINNER TIME

Lucy POV

"Um, Lu..?" I looked up from the boiling pot at Gray's voice. We had ended up starting dinner as usual, but he didn't say anything until now. "I know you said you don't really know him, but..."

"Oh. Your brother, right? Lyon?" His lack of response was everything I needed. "I don't really know him personally, but I do know of him."

"Sorry. Then you probably can't answer some of my questions..." In that moment, I felt bad. Since I'm an only child, I had no issue when I joined the academy. But Zeref and Lyon had their brothers. They couldn't say anything about their new life, so they were forced to distance themselves from Natsu and Gray.

Which in turn means I had to distance myself when it came to this topic. But I... "But did he seem like he was doing okay?"

..Fuck. One look at that stupid face and I could feel my facade wavering. I cleared my throat nervously and smiled. Maybe a little information won't hurt... "I mean, I would say so. The guy was super smart. I'm talking one of the top students of our classes." This wasn't wrong, he definitely was smart. He made the top 20 list of the school, and is the highest ranking handler right now. "If he wasn't studying, he would talk to others about academics!"

"Huh... Top of his class... typical bastard." I slightly flinched at his sharp tone, dripping with envy. "So, he decided being better than anyone else was more important than coming home for the holidays."

"T-That's not true..." I chuckled nervously. Shit. I didn't know these two had a rivalry. "Surely he went home once?"

"Nope. Why do you think I asked you?" I tried to act surprised, but I just couldn't because we were all on major missions every holiday or break. While other students could go home, the top 20 students were required to take on a mission. So, they had to go under the guise of studying or supplementary classes.

"I..." I forced myself to look away from Gray. If we continued to stay that way, who knows what else I would say... My grip tightened on my wooden spoon as I quietly mumbled to myself, "I'm so sorry..."

"Why are you sorry?" Isn't it obvious? Our decision to join Phoenix Academy caused you so much pain...

"I just, I didn't know he... I wish I knew more about him." I answered hesitantly, "So when it came to this moment, I could..."

The slam of the knife on the board stopped me from finishing my sentence. I looked, but Gray was already untying his apron and walking away.

"Oiiiii Luuuuukkkkeeee" I looked up, feeling a severe case of deja vu. Right at my door, dragging himself toward my room's desk chair, was the pink-headed idiot.

"You know, I'm beginning to think you're saying wrong names on purpose..." I muttered under my breath as I put my phone down. "Alright, Natsu. What do you want this time?"
