In another room, Sebastian went to dispose of his old, hopelessly shredded tailcoat in the fireplace. As he was placing it in, something fell out of the pocket. Curious, he picked it up and inspected it, finding it to be a folded up piece of paper. He vaguely remembered receiving it from Estella a while ago. On it, was written a poem. He read it quietly as he watched his blood-soaked coat burn.
"The world, from cold to light
As the great and wondrous stars watch over them.
Mysterious spectacles in the sky,
Shining pure white, and of blue tears.
They are joy and hope, despair and fear, courage, life.
As the heavens meet hell in a fateful kiss,
Creating a story not unwished to be lived—
A song by a dove with silver wings,
And a raven with piercing eyes;
They dance like the light in her gaze.
With the dark overpowered by love,
She has strength to exceed the barrier.
Though wounds have been opened by the seraph's fiery blade,
She is not a dove of glass,
And she is her own armor.
In the vortex of fire and black feathers—a hellish and treacherous swirl,
Her weakness will become diamond forged by bravery.
And while the winged serpent drowns in its own glorious flame,
As the demon fights with and for his final breathe,
It is her sacrifice that brings light in the end and puts destiny in its place.
He is blinded by her blood, but reawakened by the kiss of death—
An unforeseen and inevitable fate...
Yet, so beautiful.
For through it, the meaning of life is revealed—
The struggle, the despair, and the pain...
As well as the beauty, the peace, the exhilaration, the awe, the love.
What would have been of it if she had never strived?
Though the dark would have vanished,
Her tapestry would have been dull, surely.
Even though brief, her life's meaning was absolute,
To everyone who knew her.
Though some may forget,
She remains etched in their being—
The Stellar Dove."
He looked at the paper for a moment after finishing it. With no further thoughts, he tossed it in the flames and walked away as the paper and ink evaporated into ashes.
He made his way out of the room to find his master waiting in the hallway, leaning up against the wall.
"Young master," he asked. "After the events of tonight... are you alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine," Ciel answered with his normal tone. "I'm very tired."
"Of course, my lord," Sebastian nodded. "It's far past your bedtime."
And so they moved forward as they always do, the young lord and his butler—passing the light without a second glance, continuing their walk in eternal darkness until their journey reaches its end.
