The Elimination

MERCY'S POV

I have another meeting with the council today. I have to give them my answer for the next step in the Rebel case. I turn on my side and look at the clock on the bedside table. 12:00am. It's time to leave for the meeting. Jake doesn't know about this meeting so we decided to do it while he's sleeping. If he knew about what we're discussing then he'd have a fit because what I'm going to say is outrageous. I carefully removed the blanket from over me and got up. I quickly pulled on a long black coat and put up the hood. I opened the door slightly and slipped out. I darted down the stairs and through the hallway. I pushed the wall and as soon as I was at the end of the spiraling stairs I was greeted the council. I walked over and sat at my throne.

"I have a solution for the rebel case" I said loudly so they all could here. You could hear quiet murmurs through the crowd.

"I have decided to eliminate the rebels before war can break out" I stated. Cheers broke out among them.

"However" I continued causing them to automatically quiet down. "On one condition" One Court member stepped forward.

"And what would that be princess?" He asked.

"I am going to go with the soldiers" I said confidently. All of their tiny mouths dropped open. A loud roar of conversation went amongst them. I waited patiently for it to die down. Then just before someone could make their statement Jake jumped down the stairs. The room went quiet.

"I object" He yelled walking over to me but looking at the court members.

"Jake please-" He cut me off.

"That's absurd" He continued. "Your the princess you can't go out and fight with the soldiers"

"And why not?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

"Because who's going to-"

"Watch the kingdom?" I said sharply. "Why the king of course"

"Well if your going to go then I'm going with you" I stood up straighter tall and proud.

"You can't I won't allow it" I yelled.

"I won't allow you to go either" He yelled back. Then someone cleared their voice. We both looked that direction and saw the smallest court member standing before us. The others gasped in shock at his bravery. No one else was brave enough to interrupt our little fight.

"Um if I could have a say?" He said. His squeaky voice was so quiet you could barely hear him. Like I said he was the smallest. He has big black glasses and dark almost black eyes yet they looked kind.

"Of course" I said kneeling down to him.

"Well we need the rebels eliminated. So I think what we should do is go at night like we were planning to. That way all the towns people will be sleeping. We have calculated that it should only take one night if both of you go as well as the soldiers. That way you should be able to get in and out fast and clean without making any kind of a scene. We also believe that they are weak and still planning their attack because they haven't made any disturbances and we haven't even seen them go out to feed."

"I see and when do you think we should leave?" I asked.

"We think it's best if you leave tomorrow night" He said.

"Alright it's settled then. Please notify the soldiers thank you" They nodded and Jake took my hand. We went back up the stairs to our room. As soon as we got their Jake let go of my hand and locked the door. He pushed me into the wall and put his hands on either side of me trapping me.

"What's wrong?" I asked startled.

"That was stupid of you" He said and backed up. He walked away from me and sat on the couch in front of the fire. His elbows rest on his knees whilst his hands were clasped together in front of his face. He put his forehead against his hands as if he had a head ache. I walked over and sat beside him. I put one are around his shoulders and the other around his arm. I felt him immediately tense up. I rest my head on his shoulder and took a deep breath. His smell is still as intoxicating as ever. I lifted my head up to look at him. He wasn't looking at me he was just staring at the fire. He looked at me through the corner of his eyes and saw me staring. He looked back at the fire and let out a heavy sigh.
