Ch. 23

Tris p.o.v:

"I want to tell Christiana that I'm alive."  I tell Tobias.

"I don't know Tris.  It could be risky."

"Tobias she deserves to know.  She's my best friend.  She would never tell another living soul."

Tobias doesn't say anything for a couple minutes.  He's probably thinking over the consequences that could happen if we tell Christiana.  I know he was wants to protect me but this is Christiana we're talking about.  She would protect me too. 

Even though, I would like to protect myself at times, some people are willing to protect the ones they love.  Also, I can't really take care of myself right now.  I just have to roll with it.

I don't the why he doesn't want to tell her.  She will protect me because she loves me.  We've been through initiation and war.  We can't forget the whole surviving outside the fence.  And still are.  She's my sister.

"Tris, I know you want to tell her but maybe I should ask Emily or Valerie first."

"But you did that before and Emily said no."

"I know Tris.  I just want to take precautions."

"I know that Tobias, I understand.  But this is Christiana we're talking about here."

Tobias opens his mouth but then closes it.  He probably changed his mind about saying whatever he was gonna say. 

"Tobias you know Chris.  She won't spill.  She cares about me too much for that."   Tobias isn't looking at me, because I notice he has a far away stare like he's in another world.   I was getting frustrated at him.  "Tobias look at me."  Tobias turns his head in my direction. 

"Tris, I don't know.  I just think we should consult with Emily first before we do anything else." 

It's like he's saying the same line over and over again.  Ask Emily first because for the risks we might be discovered and Emily knows if its safe or not.  Well guess what Christiana is my best friend and she deserves to know if I'm alive!

I sigh out of irritation.  "Tobias can you hear what I have to say first, at least.  You know before you go off and call Emily."

"Sure."

"Thank you.  Christiana is my best friend so she won't tell anyone and she'll be careful just like you are doing.  And that isn't the entire reason why I what to tell her."

"Then why is it?"

"Ugh.  You just don't get do you?  She deserves to know!  She's my best friend.  She feels like a sister to me. 

"How would you feel if you're closest friends died and you didn't even know about it, because you weren't even told about his or hers death?"

It came out before I even knew it was coming.  Tobias' lips turned into a frown and his eyes were filled with guilt. 

"Why do you think I told Zeke about Uriah, Tris?"  His voice cracked while he spoke. 

Uriah.  One of my other my friends from initiation.  He was always goofing off and making me laugh.  He was a jokester.  I miss him so much.
