You know how I said that 'we danced as if there wasn't a care in the world' well I was wrong. Little did I know that our lives were going to change. A few months after the wedding I found out that I was pregnant. We were all so happy. Ross was happy he was going to have a sibling and well Hayes and I were excited for another child. Then we found out that I was having twins. Again there is nothing wrong with that. But a few weeks ago, Ross woke up in the middle of the night vomiting; he had a high fever and was very weak. This continued to happen for days so Hayes and I decided to take him to the hospital. Now this where it all went downhill. Sitting in the waiting room, waiting for our 9-year-old son to come out of tests, I went into labour. I was rushed into a birthing room.
The twins were born 2 hours later. Cameron and Blake had come to make sure that if Ross came out of test's there was someone there for him. 3 hours later, Blake knocked on the door asking if I was ready to go. I walked out of the room and back to where Cameron was, Hayes following behind. "Have they said anything?" I sat down in a chair next to Cameron. "They said they wanted to tell you." I nodded as a nurse walked out. We followed her into a room. Lying on a bed, connected up to a drip and everything, was out 9-year-old son Ross. I ran, the best I could to his side and grabbed his hand. "Hey buddy, how you going?" He nodded to Hayes. "Mum, what's going on? Are the twins alright?"
"Yeah bud, they are doing fine."
"What did you name them?"
"Well your little brother is Austin Cameron Grier and your little sister is Georgia Blake Grier." Ross smiled. "I have a brother and a sister." I nodded and kissed his forehead. "I'm sorry to break up that beautiful moment, but can I please speak to you two." We nodded and followed the doctor into the hallway. "I'm doctor Mitchel and I was running the tests on your son. We had some suspicions on what the problem might be so we ran tests' varying on what we thought was wrong. Brain cancer came back negative." I squeezed Hayes' hand. "Melanoma, which is a skin cancer also came back negative, but the last test we ran on him was for Leukaemia, which is a blood disease and that came back positive. So I am very sorry to say but Ross has Leukaemia." As soon as the words left his mouth, the room, started spinning. I let go of Hayes' hand and dropped to the floor. I pulled my knees up to my chest and rested my head on them. The doctor squeezed Hayes' shoulder and walked away. Hayes knelt down in front of me and put his hand in my hair. I looked up at him, my vision blurred by tears. "How are you not crying? We just found out that our son has cancer and you aren't crying?" Hayes sat down next to me and pulled me into his chest. "I'm being strong."
"Why?"
"For you." I shook my head. "You don't need to be." Hayes took a large breath in and rested his head on top of mine. Soon enough, I felt tears drop onto my head. We stayed sitting in the hallway, watching the nurses and doctors past us for a while. After awhile, Hayes cleared his throat and stood up. "We need to go and him, then tell the others."
"The others?"
"Yeah, Cam texted me saying that they are all here. My family, your family and our MAGCON family." I nodded and stood up. "Can we tell Ross first?" He nodded and grabbed my hand, leading me inside of his room. He was sitting up in his bed, watching TV. "Hey Ross." As soon as I saw him I started crying again. "Mum?" I shook my head and went and sat next to him on his bed, wrapping one arm around his body. "What's going on?" Hayes took a seat at the end of his bed. "Your test results came back."
"And?"
"Ross, buddy, you have Leukaemia." Ross looked at me then back at Hayes. "What's that?"
"It's a cancer." Ross looked at me and kissed my cheek. "Am I going to die?" I shook my head. "Hopefully not, there are many treatments that you can have to help you." He nodded. "But you might lose something."
