The Michael Kingston?! You have got to be fucking kidding me! I have to marry the schools player?!
And I thought I had it good.
I let out a frustrated sigh.
“November, Dear? Do you have something in your throat?” Johanna looked worriedly at me. “Do you need a glass of water?”
I smiled, “No, I’m fine. Thank you, though.”
“Michael,” she gave him a stern look, “Introduce yourself.”
He gave me his million-dollar smile, “Hey. I’m Michael Kingston.”
“I know,” I muttered, causing my mom to elbow me in the ribs. “Ow!” She glared at me. “Oh, um…November Smith.” I stuck a hand out for him to shake.
He stepped in front of me, taking my hand in his. He shook it, before letting it drop back onto my lap.
“Hah,” he grinned, “So I get to marry the ‘oh so amazing November Smith’.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
His eyes widened as he looked around the room. “Uh, I’ll tell you later.”
“Um,” I looked towards my mom, shrugging at her questioning glance. “Oh-kay.”
We stayed in that awkward silence for a couple of minutes, no one daring to speak up.
“So,” Johanna broke the silence, “let’s talk wedding details.” She clapped her hands excitedly. Her gaze fell on me. “November, you need at least three bridesmaids. We will go wedding dress shopping on Wednesday, and bridesmaids dress shopping the day after, so Thursday. You two have one week to become used to each other. That means no arguing, except for the occasional couple argument. Michael, I will take you to buy a proper tux on Tuesday. So tomorrow. I want a real tux, which is why I’m taking you instead of your father.” She glared at him, making Bradley smile sheepishly. She looked at us, explaining: “Last time we needed a tux for a friend of ours’ wedding, I let his dad take him, and they came back with an all camouflage tux. Who does that?” I did my best at trying not to laugh.
“I said that I was sorry!” Michael raised his hands up in defense.
“Doesn’t change the fact that we showed up to a black and white tie wedding with you dress liked you just came from starring on the show Duck Dynasty!” Johanna all but screamed at him. She recovered herself, putting her smile back on. “Anyhow, that is our plan for the week, and on Wednesday, when we go wedding dress shopping, we will also go taste cakes, and pick out flowers. I already have a wedding planner, so we don’t need to worry about that and everything else. Any concerns?”
My mom gaped at me, “No… everything’s perfect.”
“Alright, then. Mary Jane, would you like some coffee, while I go get your money?” She asked my mom.
Mom nodded, “I would love that. Thank you, Johanna.”
“Oh, it’s my pleasure!” She pulled her along towards the kitchen.
Bradley sat awkwardly for a moment, before getting up. He patted his son on the back, looking between us. “Have fun, my boy.” He directed his attention towards me. “Nice meeting you.”
“You too.” I watched as he walked away, leaving us alone.
Michael was staring at me, as if trying to find something out. “So you really don’t know?”
I blinked. “Know what?”
“Why you’re the ‘oh so amazing November Smith’?”
“Uhh,” I looked back and forth, “no?”
He looked surprised, coming to sit next to me. He stared at me, as if expecting me to do something. I opened my mouth to say something, when he cut me off.
“Do you want to know?” he asked.
“Know what?”
He rolled his eyes, muttering under his breath. “Why you’re the ‘oh so amazing November Smith’?”
“Oh. Sure.”
“You have every single guy falling at your feet wanting to date you, and you don’t even notice.” He simply replied.
I blinked.
Once.
Twice.
“What?”
“I speak the truth.” He shrugged, standing up. He held out a hand, and I reluctantly took it, stumbling as he pulled me up. He led me somewhere, not letting go of my hand.
