On Friday, when I arrived home from work, I found my family sitting in the living room. Dahyun was stretched out on one of the couches, simultaneously texting and watching television. Mom sat on one end of the loveseat, reading a book she had started the night before, while Uncle Kai was seated on the opposite end of my mother, pretending to watch the television, when in reality he was watching her.I mumbled a greeting to them before going up to my room. I changed into a pair of pajama pants and a hoodie which I'd stolen from my uncle a few years before. I put my phone in the pocket on the front of the hoodie before turning off my light and going to join my family. I mimicked my sister by stretching out on the couch opposite hers then pulling out my phone to text Tzuyu, only half listening to the T.V.
Family bonding Minatozaki style, folks. Aren't we just awesome?
An hour later, we were all sitting in the kitchen eating pepperoni pizza and ranting about our week.
My mother, who worked as a caterer, had been given the opportunity to cater a wedding reception for a rich woman in the next city over. She had been working on the menu for weeks. Finally, the bride and groom had agreed on the menu, only for the bride to call her two days later and say the wedding had been canceled.
Dahyun had broken up with Momo, which we already knew, but she gave us the reasoning behind the split. She'd called Cupid, who gave her great advice as always. All of her friends, excluding her now former best friend, had been at school the following day to comfort and support her. One of her girl friends, who saw Dahyun as her little sister whom she needed to protect, had actually punched Momo in the face when she'd found out what happened. Needless to say, my sister's horrible start to the week had a happy ending. (I'm sorry DahMo shippers <\3)
Uncle Kai had hired a new assistant on Wednesday. The assistant had been fired not even two hours later because he went into the women's restroom in hopes of getting a peek at something. Uncle Kai had been interviewing people for the last two days, with no success. All of the potential assistants were crazy, annoying, or nosy. He was so aggravated with the interviews that he was close to just getting rid of the opening and doing everything for himself.
While the rest of my family had eagerly summarized their week, I hadn't said a word. They all stared at me, waiting for me to give them some information. I stared back, wondering when they would get the message that I wasn't going to say anything. My mother and sister had eventually understood because they soon stopped staring at me and started their own conversation.
Finally my uncle said, "Sana, I believe I told you on Monday that I wanted to meet this new friend of yours. Why haven't I met her?"
I didn't bother swallowing my bite of pizza before I said, "Because I don't want you to meet her yet."
Mom jumped into the conversation. "Zaki, you should invite her to come over tomorrow."
Dahyun decided to add her two cents worth as well. "I agree. I want to meet the person you've stayed up talking to pretty much every night this week."
Uncle Kai raised an eyebrow at me. "Well, this is news to me. Care to explain, Sana?"
I didn't bother answering his question. Instead, I picked up my glass of soda and put it to my lips, gulping the majority of it down. I put the glass back on the table, and belched loudly. It had the desired effect.
My sister looked at me in disgust and said, "Gross unnie. The least you could do is say 'excuse me'."
My mother nodded in agreement, while my uncle simply scowled at me. "Way to avoid the question."
I grinned. "Yup."
Mom frowned at me. "Zaki, invite the girl over. You don't have a choice. Kai and I want to meet her."
