My sister and I were like little children on Christmas. We woke up at six in the morning and forced Mom and Uncle Kai to wake up as well so that we could open presents.
"Alright, who wants to go first?" Kai asked through a yawn.
I grinned. "You go first Uncle Kai."
"Yeah!" Dahyun agreed. "Go first Uncle Jongin."
Kai looked at my mother. "Krys?"
She shrugged. "Go first."
He sighed and reached for his first present. "To Jongin, from Sana." he read the tag. Quickly unwrapping it, he frowned at what was in front of him. "Angie, what the hell is this?"
I beamed at him. "It's a watch."
He rolled his eyes. "Obviously. I mean, why'd you get me a watch? I already have one."
"Can I see your watch?" I asked. "The old one." He removed it from his wrist and passed it to me. I went to the kitchen, grabbed the meat tenderizer, and went back to the living. I held up the meat mallet for my family to see before smashing it onto Kai's watch repeatedly. When it was thoroughly smashed, I placed the meat mallet down and smiled at Kai. "Now you don't. I hope you like your present."
He scowled at me. "I should've known you would do that." He placed his new watch down and picked up his second gift. "To Uncle Jongin, from Dahyun." He unwrapped it, a huge smile on his face when he saw what it was. "Another one for the collection," he mused, holding up his new mug. "Thank you, Dahyun. I love it." He grabbed his final present. "Alright, let's see what Krys got me this year." He unwrapped the gift, a small frown taking over his features. "I don't understand," he said holding up the gift. "Why did you write 'you're an idiot' on a sheet of copy paper and frame it?"
My mother shrugged. "Because it is the truth. You figure out what it means, Kai. I'm next." She reached for her first present. "To Mom, from Dahyun." She opened the gift and smiled at my sister. "Thank you, Dahyun. The sweater is lovely." She set it aside and picked up her next gift. "Zaki, I swear if this is something stupid..." She sighed in relief when she saw that it was just a hat, scarf, and gloves. "Thank you, Zaki." She opened her final gift. "Kai, what is this?" She held up a set of lingerie. "You don't expect me to wear this, do you?"
He smirked. "Well, only if you want to, Krystal." He winked at her before looking to my sister. "Hyunnie, you're next."
Dahyun squealed. "Yay!" She tore open the first present. "Mom, you got mad at Uncle Kai for giving you the same thing that you gave me?"
Kai looked at my mother. "Krys, why did you give her lace underwear?"
Mom shrugged. "She's sixteen and single. Let her have fun. Dahyun, open your next present."
Dahyun did as she was told. "Uncle Jongin, this blanket is so soft!" She wrapped her new fuzzy blanket around her shoulders and opened her gift from me. "A charm bracelet! Sis, you're the best!" She threw her arms around me in a tight hug. "Thank you so much!"
I squeezed her back. "No problem, Hyunnie." I pushed her away. "Now move. It's my turn." I tore open all of my presents before really looking at them. "Cool, more lacy undies. Thanks Mom." I sarcastically told my mom.
Jongin glared at my mother. "Her too?"
Mom shrugged again. "She barely wears them. Might as well get her more."
Kai sighed. "There's no winning with you, is there, Krys?"
"None at all," she said. "Zaki, what else did you get?"
"Uncle Kai got me a blanket like Dahyun's, except mine is white instead of orange. And Dahyun got me a...what in the squirrel world is this Dahyun?" I gaped at my sister, disturbed by her "gift".
My sister cackled. "The things you can buy online!"
Mom got up and looked at the thing in front of me. She cracked a grin. "Dahyun, send that back."
My sister choked out, "I can't. I ordered it back in April, and the return window is closed."
I groaned. "Great. So I'm stuck with this thing?"
Angel nodded. "Yep."
I sighed and stood up, picking up my "gift" as I did so. "Well, I'm gonna go hide this in my closet and then take a shower. Merry Christmas, Mom. Merry Christmas, Kai. And Merry Christmas, you filthy eagle."
"And a happy New Year," my sister managed through her laughter.
I kicked her lightly. "Lucky Tofu, you're lucky it's Christmas."
I decided to wear my dress that day, the one Tzuyu had bought me when we went to the mall back in November. After all, it was Christmas, and I wanted to look decent that day. Besides, my family was going to have Christmas dinner with close family friends, and I couldn't exactly show up in my baggy jeans, now could I?
After breakfast, I went up to my room to change out of the sweats I'd put on after my shower. I pulled on my dress. I brushed through my hair and tied it up into it's usual ponytail, not bothering to straighten it. Lastly, I shrugged on my leather jacket and stuffed my feet into my yellow sandals. which both went well with the dress. I looked at myself in the full length mirror that hung on the back of my door, smiling at my reflection. I quite liked the outfit I'd put together. The colors of yellow and the pastel yellow suited me well.
I snatched up my phone and the gift bags that were on the floor before running down to the living room. "Mom, can I go to the Chou's? I have to give Jackson his Christmas presents."
My mother glanced at me. "Sure Zaki. Just be back by one. We're leaving at..." she trailed off and looked back at me, giving me her full attention. "Zaki, when did you get that?"
I arched an eyebrow. "What? The dress? Tzuyu bought it for me that day we went to the mall last month."
Uncle Kai's heavy footsteps stopped behind me. "Is my kiddo wearing a dress?"
I spun around to face him. "Yep. What do you think?"
He frowned. "I think I'm going to have to invest in a bat."
I laughed. "Thanks." I looked over my shoulder to my mother. "I promise I'll be back by one. Bye guys."
