The runners apprentice

Chapter 5

Jasmine moved away from the stove sighing as she went and opened the door. A elderly woman now stood in the doorway gazing across the cabin. "May I help you" asked Jasmine gesturing for the woman to come inside. "If you could young lady I'm looking for directions to the closest in and maybe some water" said the woman stepping inside. "Yes of course I'll go fetch you something to drink and and give you the directions" said Jasmine turning her back. Annabeth was about to make a greeting when she noticed something that certainly wasn't good. On the back of the woman's neck was a scar the same one she had seen on the mans and before she could tell Jasmine she saw the stranger pull a dagger while Jasmines back was turned.
"Jasmine move" yelled Annabeth who had already made her way to the stranger. Before she knew what she was doing Annabeth was on top of the mans back sending him flying into the wall. The man tried to break her grasp but had no luck Annabeth was in control of the situation who now bent him over and kneed him in the gut and bashed him in the head and set him flying out the door. It all happened in a matter of seconds and despite it all Annabeth noticed one thing Jasmine never lifted a finger and she looked up. "Why didn't you help me" asked Annabeth turning to Jasmine.
Jasmine simply shrugged "You didn't seem to need it" she said now opening the door. "Thank you Mr.Anderson" said Jasmine nodding her head in thanks. Annabeth wasn't sure why but she soon realized Jasmine had set her up. "The girl did well" said Mr. Anderson in a pleased tone. Jasmine turned her head towards Annabeth with the smallest nod manageable. "How did you know" asked Jasmine raising her eyebrow in question. "The scar on the back of his neck I saw it when he showed up in the woods" said Annabeth still recovering from the shock. "You might make it as a runner after all" said Jasmine turning her attention back on the stove.
