The runners apprentice

Chapter 11

Annabeth examined where her throwing stars had hit the target and realized how much she had improved over the past year which was almost coming to a end. It had taken a few seconds to throw 24 throwing stars and every one of them hit on the mark. "Come on we're having breakfast at the inn" said Jasmine who seemed to show up out of the shadows. "What's the occasion" asked Annabeth turning to face her with a smile on her face. Usually Jasmine would laugh at the idea of eating at the inn she called a waste of money. "No use in cooking food and storing it only for it to rot while we're away at the runners gathering" said Jasmine.
Annabeth smiled weakly the runners gathering was the week she would be assessed to see if she was worthy to continue her apprenticeship. Annabeth followed Jasmine to the barn where they both saddled their horses and rode off towards the inn. The two companions sat there sipping their coffee after they finished eating. "Jasmine can I ask you something" asked Annabeth looking at her mentor. "For a minute I thought you were sick with some sort of illness it's been 2 minutes since u asked a question" said Jasmine with a hint of a smile.
"Did you see those cloaked figures walking out of the inn when we came in" asked Annabeth. Jasmine nodded gravely "They were likely assassins". Annabeth cringed at that thought probably due to what had happened many years ago. "You mean the assassins that served Salem in the rebellion" asked Annabeth. Salem was a traitor who organized one of the biggest rebellions to hit the kingdom with a army of fully trained assassins who nearly destroyed the kingdom. Actually it was Jasmine herself who outwitted Salem in the final battle nowadays Salem spent his days banished from the kingdom rotting with his hate. "Yes possibly actually that is what I've been pondering over because you see assassins haven't been seen this far in the kingdom since then" said Jasmine looking at her apprentice.
