Mirielle started walking home after Ladybug's remembrance ceremony. Luckily, she hasn't seen Aurore there.

Aurore absolutely despised Mirielle for winning in the weather girl competition. Everyday, she would mock and tease her, talk behind her back, spread gossip and lies to her fans. To top it all off, Aurore almost got Mirielle fired from being the weather girl once.

"Oh Mirielle!" She heard a familiar voice sing out.

She turned around, gasping at the voice.

There Aurore was, holding the little brown box Mirielle hadn't quite opened yet.

"Aurore, please give it back," Mirielle pleaded nervously. This was probably a gift from someone and she couldn't just let Aurore steal it. The shy girl wasn't sure how she would take it back from the blonde.

"What's in this ugly thing anyways?" She attempted to open it as she yanked at the wood. To her sad dismay, it would not open.

"Here's your trash, Mirielle. It works like you anyways," Aurore threw the box; it would've hit Mirielle's face if she didn't catch it.

Aurore walked off down the street, holding her head up high under her blue parasol.

Mirielle took a big shaky sigh and placed the box back in her purse, then continued walking home.

"Hey Mama! I'm home," she called out when she opened the door.

"Goodness gracious, Mirielle! I have been trying to call you for hours! Where have you been?" Her mother asked her, looking worried but now relieved.

"Sorry Mama. I went to Marinette's funeral and ceremony today," she explained.

"That was today? Sweetie, you should've called me! I would've been there as well," she told her daughter, cupping her chin in her hands.

"Oh... I'm sorry Mama," she apologized guiltily.

"She was your second cousin after all. How was it?" She asked her daughter.

"It was emotional. Adrien Agreste and Chat Noir cried a lot too. Especially this girl from school. I think her name was Alya?" She told her mother.

"Oh... Yes that was Marinette's best friend. I still can't believe your second cousin was Ladybug," she let out a pained chuckle. The thought that one of Paris's heroes was killed, the fact that her own cousin's daughter was killed scared her. She couldn't bear to think of losing her own precious girl, and it hurt her to think that sweet Marinette was gone.

"Yes, that was pretty hard to imagine," she replied.

"Do you want to start your homework while I cook up some dinner?" She ruffled her hair.

"Okay Mama! Is Dad joining us tonight?" Mirielle asked her mother hopefully.

"No, I'm sorry sweetie. He's caught up with work," she gave Mirielle a sad smile.

"It's okay, Mama. I'm going to start my homework," she said, pretending to be cheerful to hide her disappointment. Her mother sadly smiled as she watched her daughter run up the stairs to her room.

When Mirielle closed the door behind her, she pulled out the brown box.

Why didn't it open for Aurore?

She thought she would need to use a lot more force to open it. When she tried, it opened like any regular jewelry box. In fact, she was worried she almost broke the poor thing with her harsh grip.

She put her wonders about why it didn't work for Aurore aside when she saw two black earrings.

She gasped with a smile and tried them on. They're so pretty!

When she saw a red fog transform into a bug-like creature, she nearly screamed.

"What are you?" Mirielle squeaked as she looked down to see Tikki.

"Hello, I'm Tikki. I will be there to guide you and transform you into your new identity as Ladybug," she introduced herself, smiling through her pain.

"Being Ladybug?! No! Nope! No way! There is absolutely no way I am going to replace one of Paris's greatest heroes! I barely manage not messing up weather forecasting! How am I going to be Ladybug?!" She panicked, her breaths becoming heavy with anxiety.

"Please calm down, Mirielle. My former chosen, Marinette had to assign a back-up for her at the beginning of her Ladybug career and she chose you! She believed you could handle it!" She reassured the anxious girl.

"Marinette... picked me? But why? I thought she would've picked Alya," Mirielle questioned the kwami curiously as she tried to calm herself.

"Well, the master had to test you to see if you were kind and you passed the test!" Tikki exclaimed, trying to be happier. She truly missed Marinette but if this is who she chose, she wouldn't treat her any less. Marinette wouldn't have wanted her to be upset.

"Now let's go over the rules first!" Tikki decided, pushing her sad thoughts aside.

"I don't know if I can do it, Tikki. I mean- I'm not anything like a hero! I-I don't even know how to stand up to Aurore," she told her, full of insecurity.

"Marinette chose you for a reason! Of course you can! I'll help you along the way!" Tikki reassured her.

Mirielle gave her a small hopeful smile in return, wondering how she would pull this off successfully.
