Liam knew he had screwed up not long after he left the office, he had showered and pulled on some sweats before going out to look for her. What he found was a silent penthouse and a note taped to his office door.
When he read it, his stomach felt like it was full of stones. The words were nice, too nice for his liking. He was expecting anger, not reassuring words that she would be here for him when he needed her.
Did he want her to be angry at him? Maybe.
He knew that he had spent a lot of time in his office after getting the last email from his father. He had been trying to find out where he was so he could at least track him, for Rowen's safety. But he couldn't find him, so Liam started to put together everything he would need to present to the Don's for his father's removal from their family.
Liam knew he had also locked the door, an extreme measure sure, but he wasn't so sure that Rowen would approve of the conversations that he was having whilst he was locked in there. She might understand a little about the Mafia world because of her father, but that didn't mean she needed to be involved with what he was planning.
He hadn't known how to show her that this was something that was serious. Logically he could have spoken to her about it, put her mind at ease that he wasn't just pushing her away after having slept with her. And if he really wanted to think about it, he was sure that she wasn't getting the best impression of him from his actions.
Liam hated that he had let his father cut into his time with Rowen. Instead of spending his time showing her how good he would treat her, he had neglected her and shown her how distant he could be.
Liam rubbed his face in frustration at himself. He knew he needed to see her, to explain himself to her, and pray that she would understand and listen to him. She had told him to call her, would she be to upset to see him face to face? He hoped not. Because he really needed to see her.
Liam didn't bother getting dressed properly, he grabbed his car keys, wallet and phone before tossing a shirt on and slipping his feet into some shoes before he walked straight out the door.
For some reason, Liam felt angry at Rowen. He wasn't sure if it was actually for her or for himself. She said that she understood, yet she still left him when she wasn't getting attention. And while he might of understood that she didn't have all the information, he couldn't understand why she wouldn't come to him to find out what was going on.
When he arrived, he didn't even remember driving there.
When he saw her his anger for her disappeared, but his anger for himself was still there. She didn't hesitate to set him straight, and for the first time in his life, Liam was glad to be proven wrong. He didn't know what he had done in his life to be lucky enough to have a woman like Rowen in it, but he was so glad that she was.
She had managed to tell him what he had done, without accusing him or yelling and starting a fight. She had stayed calm the whole time and he was so grateful for that. She understood what he was going through to an extent, she knew that there were somethings that he couldn't tell her and she never pushed for him to tell her anything.
Liam hated himself for the way he had treated her.
Somehow he had gained her forgiveness, and she let him stay the night. He liked her house, it had little reminders of Rowen sprinkled everywhere. Books and knick-knacks litters the shelves in her bedroom, photo's hung in patterns on the walls. Her house was a home, warm and inviting, just like she was.
Liam was laying next to her in bed, listening to her trying to get comfortable. He rolled onto his side, facing her with his head propped up on his hand.
