Chapter 11

That thud rang in ur ears on a loop, making ur eyes close and ur head hurt. U saw Dylan, his face ripped apart with shock and streaming with tears as he cried out for his friend "THOMAS!!!!!!! THOMAS PLEASE NO!!!!!"
By this time u had crashed down onto the floor yet again and lay in a crumpled heap, straining to stay sane as u howled with the agony. "Thomas p-please y-you can't be g-g-gone u just C-CANT!"

That's when u saw Holly, sprinting along the bridge towards u and Dylan. Upon seeing the two of u there together, holly helped u up, sat u down on the edge and threw herself into Dylan's arms. Dylan hugged her back, sobbing and still screaming with pain.

"NO GUYS. I won't let u give up this easily" hollys words came fast and rationally, "u guys must know that it's very likely f-for someone to d-die jumping off that bridge but NOT DEFINITELY." U both looked up at her, starting to realise what she meant. "Under this bridge is a river, and quite a deep one too right now because of the tides. So Thomas c-could've ended up in t-the w-water."

U all acted at once because u knew there was no time to lose, u tore away from the bridge and hurtled down the dirt slope that led u down to the water. All the time u were doing this, holly kept talking, "Now guys, he's going to have floated along a bit by the current ok so just run as far along as u can and wait for him to drift by, dead or alive- either way, he won't be conscious"

This was a long shot by a mile, but u all knew it was the only shred of hope you had left to cling onto.

U made it to a good spot along the river and waited 3 agonising minutes looking for him, ur eyes straining to fall out of their sockets.
Just when you had all given up hope completely.....u saw him. He lay on his back thank god, eyes closed, his hair soaking wet and hanging limply from his head. U had your heart in ur mouth as u searched him for any injuries..... Nothing. "Thank god! He's got no-"

Wait. Thomas had been injured. The thud u heard when he fell became clear. His left leg was twisted horribly, bending out at the wrong angle, the foot swollen and red. "He must've hit his leg on the bridge as he fell" u cried, "what will we do?!"

Holly reassured u quickly whilst still staring at the river "come on y/n we can do this ok? It's nothing doctors can't fix. Look he's floating towards the riverbank now, all we have to do is grab him and see what damage has been done."
On the word 'damage', holly looked nervously at Dylan, who simply sobbed back in response. Something was not right and you knew it.

The sound of footsteps pounding the earth made u glance up for just a second and see Charlotte hammering along the riverbank towards you. "Y/N! I'm so sorry, I didn't know what had happened or where u were until l saw ur parents and they explained everything!" As she was talking, U noticed charlotte's appearance. Her face was very red and shone with dried tears. Although she tried her best to hide it, she kept glancing and Dylan with longing in her eyes, but glared daggers at holly.

U knew something must've happened, but now was not the time to ask what.

As ur head snapped back to the river, u saw Dylan reaching out, desperate to grab Thomas- but he was going to fall..... "DYLAN!" Charlotte yelled uncontrollably, "STOP!"
Charlotte lunged for Dylan, knocking holly out of the way and grabbing his t-shirt, holding him steady. With this extra help, Dylan was able to pull Thomas from the river and onto the grass of the bank.

U hurried forwards then, turning Thomas onto his side, stroking his wet hair off his forehead and kissing his cheek, desperate for a response. "I'm sorry Thomas, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean anything I said in that car. I don't regret what happened, not if it meant saving u."

*cough cough cough* u looked up immediately, snapping into action as u guided Thomas into a sitting position and wrapped an arm around him. "Thomas, are u ok?"

He looked at u, puzzled and bewildered before whispering, "I know Dylan, Holly and Charlotte, but who are u?"
