Chapter 49 - Searching

here's the update, sorry half that last chapter was filler stuff even I thought it was kinda crumby and the picture above sums up my face when I wrote the crumby stuff, it also sums up this chapter very well considering Emily an Demi may or may not be arguing in this chapter. ohhh dang I shouldn't of typed that...oops too late now.

I woke up and climbed out of the tree and looked around I noticed a few raspberry bushes and a small puddle of water in our general area, I walked over to the puddle and examined it, putting my fingertips in the water. It was cold and still, too bad it's not safe to drink, footsteps behind me made me jump and turn around, Demi was standing behind me I said "there's a few raspberry bushes, if you want you can pick the ripe untouched berries."

She nodded and walked off toward the closest one, I followed a trail of damp ground down a short hill to a small thin stream, I put my hands in the water and sighed glad to find drinkable water, I cupped water in my hands and drank some before I got up. I walked back up the hill to Demi and said "I found water," she nodded silently I tilted my head confused as she continued to pick raspberries without saying anything.

I said "are you mad at me or something, I know I need rest, I've lost a-lot of blood and we've been running for a pretty long time--." Demi cut me off and snapped "I'm may not be your biological mother, but you need to listen to me when I tell you that you need to sit down and take a break. If you pass out or bleed out I won't be able to do anything for you, but watch, carry you for a small distances and stay with you, because we are all alone out here, my phone wasn't waterproof so we are both screwed until we find a town. So until then don't you think for a second that you shouldn't listen to me I know your stubborn but thats no excuse to force yourself to do thing you shouldn't do because you need rest!!!"

I back up startled by her outburst replying "I'm sorry Demi, I really am, I'll rest for most of the day I promise," I walked over to another raspberry bush and began to pick the berries silently, Demi kept glancing at me concerned and fearful. I continued to glance at her determination and confidence shining in my gaze, as I glared back, she eventually pick up her pile of berries and placed them on the perch she apparently made out of leaves and twigs in the night.

I eventually brought over my pile and placed them on the perch then broke our silence and said "do you...uh..want to know where the stream is?," she climbed down and followed me and replying "why not," with heavy sarcasm. I lead the way to the stream knowing she was still mad and said "the water's clear and clean...if you want me to I'll lay down so you can wash my wounds." Demi's demeanor changed and she let out a sigh and wrapped her arms around me and kissed the side of my cheek whispering "I love you so much baby girl sometimes I forget your not actually my biological child, and that your extremely stubborn."

I laid down in the stream after taking off my shirt Demi used her hands to pour handfuls of water over my grazes, she smiled down at me and said "this is awkward." I laughed replying me in a compromising position or the way your standing over me with your legs straddling me to clean my wounds. She laughed replying "both," I smiled and rolled my eyes as she finished, I sat up and watched the last of the red tinted water wash away, before I rung my hair a few times and put my shirt on.

Demi and I then walked back to the tree and began to eat the raspberries, we are starving, but we ate slowly so as not to upset our stomachs, I ate half and said "I'm really tired I think I'm going to sleep. Demi nodded and smiled relieved she replied "I'll stay in the tree, an if I do go down I won't go far," I closed my eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep, the leaves above covering the sun. 

I woke up to see Demi leaning over me a deep and fearful concern in her gaze, she said "your blood was running down the tree trunk when I walked back to the tree, I thought you might of passed out and I....I...--." I cut her off whispering "it's okay, let's eat the rest of the raspberries then move on, Demi opened her mouth to say something but closed it and nodded after we ate the rest of the berries. I slowly climbed down and Demi and I began walking to the roadside, she put her arm around me only to pull it away with blood and her fingertips and she said "let's walk a little slower."

{Demi's P.O.V}

A few hours later the road split and off in the distance we could see what looked like the outline of a busy city, Emily and I looked at eachother and smiled we began to walk down the road toward some houses. After another hour or so of walking we reached a house we walked down the driveway nervous, I knocked on the door and we waited on the steps for someone to open it. Eventually a teenage girl who looked to be about 17 opened the door, her expression changed from questioning to excited then stunned as she realized who was standing on the steps. I looked at Emily and she shrugged, I turned to the girl and said "I'm--," she cut me off and said "I..I know who you are, ...you're...you're Demi..Lovato...and thats probably your  adopted daughter." 

I smiled and said "it's nice to meet you, but I was wondering if you could let us in, I need to make a phone call--," she cut me off again and said "because you were kidnapped and were supposed to be drowned and dead..." I gave Emily a look and raised my eyebrows and replied "umm...yea..how did you know?," she replied "I guess I should let you in you must be tired, and uh...it was on the news. Nick posted 'if you see my girlfriend and her kid please report it to the authorities they've been kidnapped.'" I turned to Emily and we both walked into the house, I questioned "where's the bathroom and can you get bandaids and whatever other medical supplies you have?"
