Chapter 27 - Coma Patient

I walked into the room and saw Emily's pale form laying on the hospital bed, she looks so lifeless and it's all my fualt, I walked over to her and sat down in the chair next to the bed, Nick put his hand on my shoulder, I held Emily's hand. I said "they say that people in coma's can hear people talking to them, so Emily if you can hear me I want you to know, that I'm here, keep fighting, please, the doctors said it'll be a miracle if you wake up, I hope you prove them wrong." I leaned my head on the hospital bed and Nick rubbed my back comfortingly, he said "Demi i'm going to go, give you a little time with your adopted daughter, alone," I replied "okay, I'll call you so you can pick me up." 

Nicked walked out of the hospital room and I lifted my head up and kissed Emily's cheek before I rested my head on my arm, my other hand still holding Emily's, I closed my eyes as tears fell down my face I'm so tired I'm not going to get any sleep for awhile, gotta stay awake, and said "I miss you already, and you've only been in a coma for about 3 hours." I felt her hand twitch in mine and I sat up, and said "Emily?," I got no response so I put my head back on my arm. I sighed and said "I can't stay that long, Emily, I have to go in about an hour or so, I'll miss you while I'm away though," I got up grabbed my phone I texted Kels and said "I hate seeing Emily like this, so lifeless, pale, she looks so dead."

Kels replied "I know Dems she'll be okay, she's a tough girl, she'll keep fighting for life," I sighed and looked at Emily as a nurse walked in and said "oh.. I thought you and your friend left, I'll come back to check on her later." I replied "it's okay, you can do whatever it is your doing I'm just keeping my adoptive daughter company," the nurse walked over and picked up a clipboard before she wrote something down and said "she's doing well. Considering her state she just may make it out of it, though I wouldn't get my hopes up," I nodded solemnly and sighed as tears fell down my face.

The nurse walked over and put her hand on my shoulder and said "she's in good hands here, try not to worry so much, just be happy she's still here," I replied "thank you," as she walked out of the room. Suddenly Emily's heart monitor began beating slower and slower until it flatlined and doctors and nurses rush into the room. I was shoved out the door and told to wait outside, I sat down crying and after about 15 minutes of waiting a doctor came up to me and said "Ms. Lovato, Emily's condition is deteriorating, I'm sorry to say that if she doesn't show signs of improvement she won't make it past a month or so." 

Tears streamed down my cheeks and I said "can I see her please?," the doctor replied "yes you can she's stable for now, we'll inform you if anything changes," I nodded and walked into the room. Emily's pale skin, dull limp form, she looks like she's already dead even though I know she's not, it shatters my heart into millions of pieces to see her like this, I sat down in the chair and held Emily's hand. I said "please don't die for me I won't be able to live with myself knowing you died to save me Emily, your too young, to kind, you should be the one to live longer than me."

I picked up my phone when I vibrated on the table telling me someone had texted it wa Nick he said "hey, Demi I know your still sad and all but um it's been almost 2 hours since I left and it's like almost 6:00am, you want me to pick you up?" I quickly replied "yea you can come pick me up I guess I should rest it won't do me any good if I don't sleep at all the next few days I should at least try." Nick responded "okay Dem's I'll be there in 20, see you soon," I put my phone in my pocket and closed my eyes and said "Emily I hope to god that you open those eyes of yours an wake up because right now I'm a mess."

Nick walked into the hospital room all too soon and said "come on Demi, time to say goodbye for now, you'll see her again in a weeks or so I already talked it over with your manager," I got up and said "I miss you," before I placed a kiss on her forehead. I walked over to Nick and said "I don't want to leave her, part of me wants to run into that room and hug her, while another wants to lay down and cry." 

Nick wrapped an arm over me and replied "I know me too, Demi," as he led me to the car, I then said "it's going to be hard for me to adjust to not having her around while her stuff is still there." Nick stayed silent until he finally said "you know I'm here for you, if you want to talk," I replied "thanks," as he opened the car door for me, when we were both in the car the driver began driving back to the hotel.

When we arrived at the hotel Nick said "you go get changed I'll come sit with you if you want we can talk if you want, or I'll leave you alone to sleep either way." I replied "that's sweet of you Nick, but I'm going to try to get some sleep," before I walked into my hotel room closed the door and collapsed on the bed crying myself to sleep.
