Who is ready for the wedding!?
Chapter Seventy-Four – Where They Say Their Vows
Julian's PovMy heart was racing a fucking million miles a second. I was standing up waiting for her with the men. The girls came down and joined either side of us where we were told to stand yesterday during the rehearsal.
The rehearsal I thought would take away my nerves; it didn't. My hands couldn't stay still as the last woman came down the flower covered aisle. When the music changed to the traditional song I was ready but nothing could prepare me for what I saw in front of me.
I tried; I tried so hard to keep it together for her and I couldn't. We stuck to tradition and I never saw the dress before today; not even a picture, no idea, no anything. The photographer thought it would be a cute idea to put a blindfold on me and bring me out to Bailey. I couldn't touch anything besides her hands and we took photos together and with the wedding party. She had us around the corner from each other and then had our parties join us.
She got creative because I didn't see a glimpse of Bailey's dress; until now.
I pursed my lips together, tried blinking, deep breathing but it didn't help. My chest shook as I cried, yet desperately tried to stop. She was so beautiful and in the moment I knew the true meaning of the word breathtaking.
She came closer and I couldn't breathe; like this was a dream and if I did she would disappear. Her dress was the opposite of what I imagined it to be. It was huge; the top would be what drove me crazy; The lace top and the dip between her breasts. She was covered fully in a ball gown; weird looking material with a lace trim and lace full top that went to her lovely hips. Her veil trailed even farther behind her than the dress and she was only about ten feet away now. She was everything.
There was no stopping it; I was crying and I couldn't help it. When Bailey and Drew stopped he had to dab under her eyes to try and stop hers. Drew gave her away and stood right by her side; where he's going to be for the rest of our lives.
Her hands were soft and I ran my fingers over her engagement ring. The boys brought two boxes and Drew took one, Mia took the other. We were supposed to hold hands I guess but I needed to touch her. As he started talking I reached out to caress her cheek and she leaned into my touch. Her eyes; god her eyes were spectacular.
"In absence today is our best friend, my maid-of-honor and Julian's best girl. She knew this would happen from the beginning and before we say our vows we would like to take a moment of silence for her." She could hardly say that. She wiped at her eyes before closing them; all of us who knew her remembering her spirit and those who didn't were respecting our wishes.
Once the moment was over and the man officiating our wedding started to talk, she put those incredible eyes back on me and kept them on me; the sound of his voice being drown out. He had to ask twice for me to say my vows and Bailey and I decided to write them; but keep them shorter. We would share a more private letter with each other in Italy.
"I could talk about how much you've forgiven me and stood by my side but I don't want to focus on the bad. I spent weeks trying to figure out what I wanted to say to you in this moment and nothing seemed good enough. You are the most incredible person I ever met and I'm lucky that I get to marry a woman who's my best friend and who loves me, my family and even strangers; because you're just that kind of person. Your compassion is astounding. No matter what life throws at us we've always found a way to get past it; that won't ever change.
So as I stand in front of our friends and family I want to make you some promises." This was so much harder than I thought it would be and I was already messing it up; I should have brought the paper to read from.
