The trip outside the wall was gruesome. We lost more than two hundred of our soldiers and barely made it back to the wall. I, myself, had suffered a broken arm from slowing down a Titan during the final stretch to the gate. The best Hange could do was wrap and place it a lousy sling.
I expected nothing less than the ridicule when we went through the Shiganshina District. While I was walking along with my horse, I heard a kid calling my name. I glanced up to see a small boy with short brown hair.
He caught my eyes and begins waving above his head, smiling. I froze, searching his eyes. What had me so drawn to this boy was beyond me. However, I did recognize him from all the other times I came through the wall. This was just the first I had taken the time to look at him. I just witnessed horrific things but something about that's boy's spirit made it all seem less tragic. I felt lifted, for the first time my entire life.
I didn't even think when I pulled my horse with to get closer. Levi and Hange called after me but I ignored them. The few men standing between me and this young boy slowly backed away to form a path for me. They may hate us but there's no way they'll try something that'll end with their finger chopped off. I knelt down in front of this kid and asked, 'What's your name, boy?'
He was too shocked to speak at first. He tried to do the military salute but he had his fist too low and his other arm was in front. 'Eren Yeager, Captain Yamazaki!'
'You can call me Captain Saichi.' I scoffed, ruffling his hair. "Eren, it's a pleasure to meet you."
He laughed, shaking my hand with both of his small ones. 'I look up to you, Captain! I want to be like you someday! I want to join the Survey Corp and save humanity!'
His tone really hit me. He spoke with pure determination and drive. I doubted there would be anything or anyone, including me, to steer him from this dream of his. I took my knife from my boot and cut the Wings of Freedom from my bloodied cloak. It was messy but it was the most I could offer. I held it out to him. 'How about make a deal, Eren? You get to keep this to remind you fo what you truly want to do for humanity. When you finally achieve that, I want this back. Okay?'
He gasped, nodding. 'I promise Captain Saichi!'
'And you always salute your heart.' I slipped my patch into his pocket then corrected his salute. I moved his small fist up and put his arm on his back. 'Like that. If you want to be apart of the Corps like me, you have to remember that.'
'Yes, Captain!'
"Eren, I never got a chance to properly introduce everyone on the squad besides Levi and myself." My entire squad stands respectively in a line out by the training grounds. "First, we have Petra Ral. Outside of me, she is the only female a part of the Elite Squad."
Petra smiles. "It's a pleasure to be a part of the same squad as you, Eren."
"Next, we have Oluo Bozado. He might look like an idiot but he is very skilled, being the one with the highest kill number of his fellow squad members."
Oluo has a much older appearance than his peers, having more pronounced wrinkles despite being around the same age as his teammates. He has slightly curly, light brown hair styled in an undercut and small hazel eyes. In the beginning, he used to try and imitate Levi until I became annoyed and put a knife to his neck. After that, he lightened up and acted as his own person.
Oluo is a very self-confident, outspoken individual, and enjoyed boasting about his own prowess. Despite his obnoxious demeanor, he is the best out of the squad. This only fuels his haughty nature. Though Oluo tries to come across as self-important, his cockiness is rarely taken seriously, and he is actually quite clumsy. He only nods his head.
