Noble Father

Levi's POV

Lance Yamazaki was given the title as a noble after spending most of his life being the righthand man for the king. After his passing, it was only seen fit for him to be given a royal title as well as the responsibilities of funding the Survey Corps as well as the reconstruction of both outer walls. The moment I hear his name, I knew he would cause nothing but trouble for us. He will be very difficult for anything we need. What I didn't intend for is his request to meet with our new commander. During the ride to HQ, he revealed his full name. It shocked Erwin and me more than anything we've ever encountered.

This bastard is Saichi Yamazaki's father.

Saichi reacted exactly how I knew she would. She attempted to pull a knife but Erwin stopped her before she got any blood on the floor I polished myself. Now, she's sitting at her desk. She became so angry, she accidentally transformed with her tails and ears. Her eyes are darker with her pupils are in slits, just like a cat. Lance is sitting on the couch with one leg on top of his opposite knee, continuing to smirk like the arrogant bastard he is.

Erwin gives me a slight nudge. It simply means to be ready to stop Saichi if she becomes too irrational with her actions. After minutes of deadly silence, Lance says, "I thought you would be happier to see me, Commander Yamazaki."

Her expression calms as she sits up. Even I become scared when Saichi is too calm. She's the most dangerous now. "I believe you came here with a bit of a misunderstanding," she replies softly. "Allow me to clear the air for you. I have wanted to kill you with my bare hands since I was a little girl. I have studied personally thousands of ways to torture a human being without killing them, understanding the organs a person can live without. I have wanted to see you suffer right before I glide my best knife across your throat, ending your pathetic life once and for all."

Lance scoffs. "I see we have some healing to do between father and daughter. Didn't you receive the wine I sent? It was very expensive."

Saichi received a lot of gifts once she became the commander. She gave most of the teas to me, the booze to Hange and Erwin, the sweets to the brats, and only kept one bottle of quality wine. I've been trying to get my hands on it for a while now. Even Erwin has tried to sneak it from her office. She banned anyone from touching it or drinking it.

Saichi simply reaches into her drawer to reveal the tall bottle with fancy cursive on the label. It's still new, unopened. If she didn't plan on drinking herself, why hell wouldn't she just give it to one of us who actually wanted it? "This one, correct?" She begins pouring a small glass then slides it to the edge of her desk. "How about you have some, Noble Yamazaki?"

Lance drops his smirk and glares at Saichi. She remains calm while he seems to be a bit upset, suspicious even. He moves his eyes between the glass and Saichi. "I don't like drinking." That sounds like a bunch of bull. There's more silence. Saichi takes the glass and drinks it all within two gulps. She slams the glass down, returning the glare to her father. Lance's eyes widened but then he begins laughing. After wiping the tears from his eyes, he says, "So you knew."

She closes the bottle and drops it in her trash. I look over at Erwin who's smirking. Am I missing something? Saichi uses her handkerchief to wipe her mouth. "Of course. Whether I knew it was you or not, I smelled the poison on this bottle the moment it was given to me. What you failed to realize is I have trained my body to be immune to almost all poisons just so I can avoid tricks like yours."

So it was poisoned. Now that I think about, there has always been certain food or drinks Saichi became selfish with when it was given to her. She never consumed herself but never gave it to anyone else. Now I get it. Of course, Erwin is the only person that knew. He's probably the only one who noticed from the beginning. Lance can only smile. "I see the Undergrounds did you some good. You've really impressed me with the woman you've become."

"No thanks to my father who sold me to those people that turned me into the woman I am today."

"I did what I had to. We had no money. Your mother and I-"

"I don't care for any of your excuses. As far as I'm concerned, you are nothing but a gene donor. A shitty one at that."

"Saichi, am I really the bad person in this room? Do you really believe you're an angel compared to me?" Saichi narrows her eyes. "Confused? Let me clarify: Do your lover and former commander know the exact number of people you've killed?" Saichi slowly loses her tail and ears as she leans back in her chair. She shakes her head, looking away. I've only counted up to twenty to thirty people outside of titans. Maybe Erwin knows more. Based on Saichi's change in attitude, it's much more than either of us know combined. Lance sees this and returns to his evil smirk. "Is that a no, Commander Yamazaki?"

Saichi sighs. "What I've done in the past has nothing to with them..."

Lance stands. "Oh, but it does. You see, I may have sold you but I never lost track of you. I know how many people you've killed but I'm sure your number is more accurate. How about you tell them? Or is the brave commander scared of how they'll view you?"

From here, I can see the tears making their way into Saichi's eyes. I know she's hiding something. Out of all the things she's hidden, this has to be the worst of them all because she can't bring herself to say it. If Erwin doesn't know, it has to be horrible. Saichi closes her eyes, taking deep breaths. Without opening her eyes, she says, "There have been exactly 2, 659 people, excluding titans."

I feel a lump gather in my throat. Saichi has always had this killing tendency. Blood on her hands has been spilling over since I found her in the Undergrounds. I didn't know it was that bad. I never saw it. Lance is satisfied with Saichi's answer so he sits back down. "Don't feel bad, commander. You can't help what you've done. You have what your mother had." Saichi looks up, tears ready to fall. "You have a bloodlust that you can't control. It's something genetic, I can assume. You feel good when you kill and get the blood all over yourself. Sometimes you black out and don't realize what you've done until it's all over."

"How do I stop this?" she asks quietly.

"As far as I know, there is no stopping it. You have to live with what you have. You have the thoughts of killing someone every single day. It gets worse the more days you go without harming someone."

Now I remember. Saichi has come back many times, covered in blood. I have never questioned. Erwin wouldn't either. Hange and Mike would stay silent as well. We would strip her down and get her in a tub of hot water. As we washed her hair and body, she would stare off at nothing and move like a dead person walking. She'd go to sleep then wake up as if it never happened. It's the same every single time, especially after expeditions and especially when she killed those scientists that tortured Yeager. I can't believe this noble bastard is who has made me realize how much Saichi actually struggles on the inside.
