Joey stormed out of Lauren's apartment, after three fights in a week, he was tired and exhausted. Both of them needed space.

His apartment was a long walk away, but when he reached there, it was already midnight. Joey flopped down on his bed and that was when he realized how empty his bed was. He never had a sleepless night with Lauren. She always hugged him to bed, telling him how much she loved her.

Lauren buried her face in her hands, sobbing. She always picked the fights over tiny things, and she never regretted it that much until now. She never had a sleepless night with Joey, he always calmed her down. No matter if it was a storm or a nightmare, he was there for her, every single night, for a thousand and one nights, until now.

She turned around, and saw the jacket on her chair. His jacket, his favorite leather jacket. He left it behind. Even though Lauren couldn't face Joey, she knew she had to return it. But she knew she couldn't fall asleep without him beside her, so she hugged the jacket, laid on the bed and cried herself to sleep.

Lauren woke up the next morning, finding herself not letting go of the jacket. But she forced herself out of bed, draped the jacket over her like how Joey would when it gets cold, and got ready for going over to Joey's place.

She was driving her car, everything was well, until her car broke down. She checked the tank and swore, she never got around to filling the car. Lauren decided to walk the rest of the way, it was only half an hour away.

No one knew whether it was God raining on her parade, literally, she didn't have an umbrella, so she had to walk, in heavy rain, with only Joey's jacket as a roof, for twenty minutes. Lauren was completely soaked, head to toe, but she knocked anyway.

Joey showed up at the door, and his face fell when he saw her. Lauren stole a glance, and looked down as she stuck out her hand and handed him the jacket.

"Sorry it's wet... My car broke down and it was raining and I didn't have an umbrella, so..."

Joey took the jacket and replied stiffly, "Thanks."

He knew she was crying, because of her red puffy eyes and how she wouldn't even look at him. But she knew he had been crying too, because she had known him for so long.

"So..."

"So..."

They finally looked at each other, but after a quick second, they looked at the ground again.

"Sorry... I keep fucking things up. I keep picking fights and I just wanna let you know that I'm sorry," Lauren finally spoke up after an awkward silence, "I should head home..."

"It's still raining," Joey stated bluntly, "You're welcome to stay until it stops."

Lauren shook her head, "I don't think you would want me in your house. I'm drenched, you hate me."

"I don't..."

"I'll head home."

When she was halfway out of Joey's sight, he knew what he had to do. Joey loved Lauren, and he knew this was just some bump along the way to their happy ending, so he ran out into the pouring rain, grabbed Lauren, spun her around and kissed her like he normally would.

She was in shock for a second, but she realized what was going on and she wrapped her arm around his neck, kissing back with every ounce of her passion and her love for him poured into the kiss.

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry," Joey whispered in between kisses.

"And I am sorry too," Lauren replied as they poured their emotions out like the rain was pouring into kisses and words that they say. And whatever they were thinking, they were right.

This was just a bump along the way among many more, this was their path to a happy ending, and they both knew it.
