"Jaime died to finish this," Joey said as he loaded the capsule containing blue liquid in his gun, "I will not let her sacrifice be in vain."

Darren held his best friend's arm, "Are you sure? This hasn't been tested yet, it could hurt Lauren, or you! Remember what happened to Rachael when she tried to give Jeff the antidote?"

Joey nodded his head, "I will not lose the love of my life to a bunch of fucking living dead, I'm getting her back."

"Then I will go with you," Darren said, "I'm your best friend, and I'm not losing my best friend to a bunch of fucking living dead either."

Lauren was bitten a day ago, but luckily, she had her phone safely zipped in her jacket pocket when she was bitten, they tracked her phone and decided to use the antidote on her, seeing as how Rachael couldn't give it to Jeff before he bit her and Denise and Dylan had to shoot Jeff before he could get to them and Rachael before she could change.

The boys suited up, taking Brian along with them, and ventured out into the eerie, empty, dangerous streets, following Lauren's signal on Joey's phone. Not long after they left their base, they killed a couple zombies, and could see Lauren in sight. They hid behind a pillar, Joey peeking out, knowing he only got one chance at saving Lauren. He could see her clearly, her face in a sickly green color with sunken cheeks, she literally looked dead. Joey's heart broke at the sorry state of her, he blamed himself for not being able to save her from being bitten, and if he couldn't save her with this shot, he could never forgive himself.

Zombie Lauren advanced towards their direction, probably caught scent of the boys, Joey waited till she was close enough, but not knowing whether she was a fast zombie or not. He could hear Lauren trotting slowly on the pavement and he decided to take the risk, jumped out of sight, aimed his gun at Lauren and shot her right in the heart with the antidote. Lauren fell back, gasping for air. The boys rushed over to her, color was slowly returning to her face, her eyes opened. They weren't the magenta color all the zombies had, they were brown once again. Joey knew, Lauren was back.

She grasped around for Joey's hand, he held it tightly, laying Lauren's head on his lap, "It's okay Lo... it's okay, you're safe..."

"Joey..." she tried to say, but before she could say anything else, her eyes closed, and the blinking light on the capsule that once contained the antidote switched off, signaling the capsule had done its work. Joey knew he had to take the needle out and patch it up to prevent Lauren from bleeding to death, as that was what Jaime said in her research. So he had the boys turn around and guard while he had to fix Lauren up.

When he did, he picked Lauren up bridal style and all three of them hurried back to base, the others killing some easy zombies on the way back, and everyone else was relieved to see them well and alive. Joey brought Lauren to the backroom and laid her down on the makeshift bed, sitting by her side, holding her hand. He lost track of how long he had been there, because the next thing Joey heard was Darren coming in and telling him it was time for dinner.

"You have to eat," Darren said matter-of-factly.

Joey refused, "I can't leave her unattended, I need to watch over her."

"Nothing's gonna happen to her," Darren put a hand on his shoulder, "The shop is on lock down and you can be just outside."

"No," Joey said once again, "I can't leave her."

Darren reassured him, "It will be fine, she won't get hurt, I promise."

But he kept shaking his head and refusing to go out, "I'm not letting her get out of my sight again... I can't let her get hurt, not again..."

Darren ultimately surrendered, but promising Joey he would bring in some food for him. And Joey lived up to his promise, it was said that it would take a while for Lauren to fully recover, and she would be knocked out for the whole process and it would take three days. Joey never left her side, Darren brought him his meals everyday and Joey kept holding Lauren's hand, updating her on what was going on, telling her how much he missed her, how much he longed for her to just open her eyes. Everyone went in and tried to talk him into having another person looking out for Lauren, but he refused. Joey promised Lauren he would never let her get hurt ever again, and that he would protect her till death did them apart. Everyone was worried for him and Lauren, he never spoke a whole conversation with anyone except for her for five whole days.

Lauren was out for an exceptionally long time, and Joey was getting impatient and worried, worried that she would never awake from her slumber, worried that he would never get to see her beautiful brown eyes again, worried that he had failed her. His only sign of her being alive was her chest moving up and down as she breathed in and out rhythmically, and it was getting less promising day by day. He was just giving up on hope that she would ever wake up and stood up, prepared to go out to the main part of the shop for a proper meal with the gang when he heard a soft, croaky voice behind him say:

"Joey?"
