"To tell the truth," Jaime said, finishing her muffin, "You hadn't seen him in three months."

Rachael sighed, randomly playing around with the foam on her latte, "How would that change anything? Maybe I always liked him..."

"You never even texted him! Maybe you just miss him too much and that made you think that you actually like him," the faux blonde reasoned with her best friend.

The black haired girl looked at her watch and leaped up, the drink lay unforgotten on the coffee table, "Time to go!"

Getting back to Stage 773, everyone was scrambling to get their costumes on for tech rehearsal. Rachael and Jaime quickly stripped in the dressing room, threw on their tight suits and their costumes on top. Rushing out, Rachael was suddenly captivated by Jeff pushing his messy head of hair back as Lauren frantically tried to roll up his sleeves for the show while he softly sang along to the songs. She suddenly felt a soft pang of jealousy hit her chest, Lauren did nothing wrong, it was just she wanted to spend more time with Jeff.

Rachael walked over, and Lauren looked up to greet her. She reassured the brunette she would take care of the other sleeve as Jeff looked up and noticed Rachael.

"Hey Rach," he grinned goofily as she walked over to roll his other sleeve up. All of a sudden, he started singing:

"At first I didn't want it,
Your daddy, well, we didn't fit..."

Rachael grinned, continuing the song:

"But I couldn't swing it,
I was scared to do it alone..."

Joey yelled from a distance, "OI! If you don't mind stop singing to yourselves, we have to do a run-through!"

Jeff helped Rachael button up his sleeve and hopped onto the stage, grabbing his hat in the process. She copied his movements, but blushing bright red.

Rachael always treated Jeff as an older brother ever since Twisted. A couple months before rehearsals for the Trail to Oregon started, she was called back to Madison to deal with some family business. Rachael ended up spending three months back at home, recomposing herself before walking back into the entertainment industry. She rarely talked to her friends back in Starkid, as she decided to spend more time with her parents and her sisters. The moment she walked into rehearsals, Jeff greeted her with a bone crushing hug, telling her that he missed her a lot. That was when she started seeing him differently. She felt a need to be close to him, she felt like she wanted more than friendship.

But Jaime's advice was: You date because you love each other, and when you get trapped in a relationship, aka, a cage, you try to break the cage. And when you break it, it's gonna be very hard mending it. Jeff's a nice guy, and you don't wanna risk this friendship you have.

The last couple days of tech rehearsals flew by and soon, it was opening night. People were rushing around, warming up their vocals and running their lines quickly. Rachael, however, found herself staring at Jeff.

"RACHAEL!" Jaime and Lauren snapped her out of her trance together.

She looked up, "What?"

"It's way to obvious that you like him, keep it cool!" Lauren warned.

Jaime rolled her eyes, "Just tell him after the show!"

"Don't!" the brunette quickly said, "You don't wanna make things weird between you two. Friendship destroyer alert!"

Jaime, on the other hand, reasoned calmly, "It'll be a momentary thing, you two will still be best friends if he treasures your friendship."

"Hey girls," Jeff came over and slung his arms around Rachael and Jaime, "No offense Lo, but you have Joey."

Lauren chuckled, "It's fine."

"What are you fine ladies talking about?" Jeff asked.

"Puppies," Lauren said.

"Cookies," Jaime replied.

"Nothing," Rachael answered softly.

Jeff laughed, "You do know I can tell when you're lying, right?"

Jaime gave Rachael an encouraging nod, and she knew it was now or never. No better time than right now.

"Yeah, you caught me," she chuckled, trying to play it cool, "Can I talk to you in private?"

Jeff nodded and they went to a secluded corner outside of the dressing room where no one could hear them. He looked at her curiously, "Everything okay?"

Alright Rach, it's now or never.

"I... Let's just keep it short, I love you," she rambled, shutting her eyes and hoping for the best.

"Aww, I love you too Rach," Jeff chuckled, "Didn't we always?"

She knew he was taking it the wrong way, "No... I mean... Since I got back, I've been feeling... different around you. I wanted to be beside you all the time, you were all I could think of after rehearsals. I guess what I'm trying to say is... I like you, Jeff Blim. Maybe it's because I missed you during those three months, or maybe it's in me all along. I hope we can still be best friends, regardless of how you feel."

Jeff looked dumbstruck, but with that same mischievous smirk on his face, "I... I think... I think it's been in you all along."

With that, he grabbed her face, pressing his lips onto hers.

Some of these O/S's are based on my experiences, but of course, unlike the Starkids in this book, I don't get the happy endings. But anyway, I hope you guys have an amazing holiday season, Merry Christmas!
