Julia and Lauren- Roommates

To start this off, this will be a friendship O/S. And this is dedicated to my roommate Judith, who is leaving today and we don't know if the chance to see each other again will come to pass. She helped me with all the Spanish translations in this book, even over half term when she was back in Spain. So this goes out to you Judith!

Julia sat down on her bed and left her suitcases momentarily forgotten. It was a long journey from Cincinnati to Ann Arbor, but here she was, the University of Michigan, another four long years at school.

She looked over at the neatly packed side of the room that belonged to her roommate. Julia longed to meet her and she prayed that she would be nice and has a high level of tolerance.

"Hi!"

Julia turned to the door, and there stood a petite brunette with a warm smile on her face. Julia stood up and stuck out her hand for the girl to shake.

"I'm Julia, Julia Albain."

The girl shook it, "I'm Lauren, Lopez. Lauren Lopez. I'm so happy to finally meet you!"

Just then, a middle aged man, presumably Lauren's father, came into the room.

"Oh hi! You must be Julia! I'm Lauren's dad," he introduced himself and she shook his hand.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Lopez."

Mr. Lopez suggested, "Hey, why don't you two take a picture? To document the day you met."

They agreed and positioned themselves in front of Julia's wardrobe, Lauren's dad quickly snapped the picture and promised to email it to Lauren, who in turn, promised Julia that she would forward it to her.

"So... I'll leave you girls to get to know each other," Mr. Lopez said, turning to Lauren, "I need to go now. I'll see you during Christmas."

Lauren embraced her dad tightly, "I'll miss you Dad."

Mr. Lopez kissed the top of her head, "Te extraño también, mi hija."

After Mr. Lopez left, Lauren sat on her bed, studying Julia, who was starting to unpack.

"Where are you from?" Lauren asked, picking up a teddy bear from her bed.

Julia replied, looking up, "Cincinnati, Ohio. You?"

"Novi."

"Cute teddy bear," she smiled, motioning at Lauren's hands.

Lauren chuckled, blushing bright red, "It's from my boyfriend back home. Anyway, are you staying till graduation?"

"Yeah, why?"

"I'm only staying till Christmas."

Julia felt her heart drop, even though she only met the girl, she thought she was so nice and was bound to become her best friend, but she didn't dare ask why, "That's peculiar..."

"So, what are you taking?"

"Theater."

"No way, me too!" Lauren chuckled, offering her roommate some chocolate, "Take some, my dad just thinks I don't have enough to eat because Grandma thinks I'm 'too skinny'."

Julia took one cautiously, "Thanks... Wanna stick together for a couple days, just so we always have each other to lean on?"

"Of course! I'd love to!"

"Hey Lo?" Julia asked from her desk, laptop open on her table, "You know a lot of Spanish, right?"
