"Hey babe!" Jessie shouted out as I looked out the window, grabbing my coat before stepping out into the chilly night. I exhaled and seen my frosty breath in a cloud of smoke in front of my face. It was growing dark and it was unusually nippy for a mid September evening.

"Hey Jess," I smiled as I hopped over the threshold and shut the door behind me. "How was your meetings?" Lunch was cancelled due to her number of meetings being tripled and the little crater ending up with 3.

"Interesting! How was the applications?" Jess replied.

"Meh." They were fine I suppose, it just felt like a chore but I got them done. "What do you wanna see anyway?" I asked. I was referring to our joint decision to go to the cinema before getting food.

"What about that new superhero film?" shrieked Jessie, her eyes huge, glimmering with excitement and at her suggestion I'm sure I mirrored the same expression.

"Oh my goodness! Yes, I totally forgot about it! I can't wait but I hope it's as good as the book was!" I shouted, fangirling a little.

"You read the books?" Jessie smiled.

"Uh huh," I replied.

"Oh my god. Me  too!" She screamed and I joined in. Rowan, just think about how ridiculous you look right now. Seriously though, flipping out and screaming in the middle of the street with Jessie, just over a film and a book? Nice one.

"Okay we should stop," I said after inhaling and calming the hell down. Thank goodness or that well.

We arrived at the cinema ten minutes later and purchased tickets. Of course I bought an extra large coke, a large popcorn and an extra value share bag of Doritos all for myself. Jessie gave me a very shocked look. I raised my eyebrows at her.

"Oh my gosh you're right I forgot the M&M's! I'll have 2 bags please!" I shouted. Causing Jessie burst into a fit of giggles beside me.

when we got the screen number six I got cold hard stares from everyone, except Jess as she was still giggling, for munching and fidgeting so loudly.

"Can I have some popcorn?" Jessie asked in a hushed whisper. I gulped, swallowing the popcorn in my mouth and handed her the empty box. "How the hell did you eat all that so quickly?"

"I dunno," I shrugged. "I guess I chewed and swallowed it."

Soon the movie was over and we were having a debate about dinner. We had no idea where we wanted to go. Jessie didn't like McDonald's and I didn't want to go to some fancy place.

"How can you even be hungry after eating all that food in the cinema?" Jessie challenged.

"Girl, I'm always hungry," I replied.

"You know what? I really want a fish supper," Jessie sighed.

"Oh my gosh, such a good call!" I said, giving her a high five. So we headed to a little chip shop near the river. After ordering we sat down. It was quiet and we were the last order of the night. Our food came a short ten minutes later and we dug in with our chippy trademark wooden forks. Soon after feeding Jessie a few chips I just ate with my fingers.

"Yeah, that's just easier," Jessie said, giving in on chasing a chip with her 'fork' and used her fingers too. I popped open my can of coke and gulped a mouthful down, sighing in pleasure after the fizzy bubbles had finished erupting on my taste buds and tickling my throat.

"Why is it coke always tastes better from a can?" I wondered.

"No idea," Jessie shrugged, popping her can open too.

We were done eating 15 minutes later and pulled on our coats quickly. The air was now very cold and crisp. A layer of mist and fog had swept in and the grass was now frosty. We quickly decided to go back to mine. While we walked past the river I slipped my hand to hers. Right in this moment everything felt so perfect. It always did when I was with Jessie. As we were walking past the river we noticed some ice forming on park benches when rain water had collected from earlier.

"I wonder why it's so cold tonight?" Jessie asked.

"Maybe because the weather has been kinda good lately. Here take my jacket," I replied, shrugging out of it. After a little persuasion she took my jacket.

Just as we were about to cross the road there was suddenly a loud high pitched screech. It was a car. The brake light was on but the tires wouldn't stop. The heat generated from the friction of the tires on the cold slippy tarmac was causing very clearly visible some to rise from below the wheels. Then right before my very eyes the wheels locked and hit a boulder, causing the car to over turn a few times, tumbling ever closer to the river bank before splashing into the icy river below. The last thing I saw as the vehicle began to sink was a yellow 'baby on board' sign before the car was fully submerged.

Before I could even think about the consequences I slipped of the jacket which I was wearing under the coat I gave to Jessie and ran to the river, leaping off the bank and plunging into the cold dark water, only then realizing how cold it actually was. Jessie's calls where only a small muffle as I started to swim closer to where the car had sunk. As I dived into the depths on the water I then began to realize how mammoth the tragedy actually was.
