SPOILERS AHEAD!!! (FROM THE KILL ORDER AS WELL)
Let's get this finished with. Ok where to start with? The book started pretty well until when Thomas starts to rant about Teresa and says that she has become to represent all the bad things that happened to him. How!! I mean how is that possible? Next when they meet again if he really hates her then why does he go to her in the auditorium thing and then Minho makes fun of her. It's just horrendous the way they treat her. It feels like she has no one apart from Aris and some of the girls.
Next another blow when it is revealed that Newt has the Flare. O my God! How selfish it is of WICKED to do what they did. It makes sense that Newt is the Glue but he was the one who cared about everything and everyone the same so he was the one who least deserved it. It just hurts to hear that one of your favorite characters has a death sentence, one they cannot escape. It starts to really feel like all WICKED is doing is for nothing. And to be fair it kind of makes sense that Janson had the Flare, the way he acted hinted to it, I mean it looked like he was taking the bliss thing. About Newt again, it might be that because Thomas were the creators Thomas actually knew that before the Maze trials. If that were true I would actually hate Thomas even more after what happened with Teresa.
Anyway the point where I totally despise Thomas is when he says no to get his memory back. Why? Why would he that? Isn't that the whole point why he hates WICKED so much? Because they are continually lying to them and Thomas wanted to know the truth. So why now that he is getting that he doesn't want it. I mean I get that he thinks that it might be a trap but everyone else takes the chance and we know that they get the memory back because they escape. because Teresa is my favorite character it makes sense to me that I don't like this book so much, the point being that she appears in the book about like 15 or 20 pages, so it's obviously annoying. It's like she's dead even before than actually dying in the end. I wanted to know more about what she remembered and stuff and I certainly am glad that The Fever Code is coming out at the end of the month.
When Newt gets the news that he's not immune and has probably got the virus already I don't get why they don't try to get some of that drug the call The Bliss just to give him some more time. Also Minho knows that Newt has the virus so why does he fight with him I don't get it. But it's probably because that's his way of hiding his sadness or something. But it's cruel.
About Brenda, we found out that she works for WICKED and Thomas still trusts her all right, as if nothing has happened. That's crazy! And in the whole book she's just like Thomas I need you to trust me, only me and Ava Paige. Woah why only her who had just lied to him in the scorch saying that she had the Flare and crap. She's basically a bitch and I hate her! There I said it! (Everyone has their own opinions by the way) she is the first fictional character I hate so much. She has replaced Teresa and is that is not fair on Teresa.
When they are about to cut Thomas's brain open he has the choice to write some notes for his friends. He writes one for Minho. Okay. He writes one for Brenda. (*punch the wall*) so why doesn't he write a note for Teresa????!!!! WHY!!!! STUPID THOMAS!!!!
It is sad how it ends for Newt, one of the best characters ever to exist – Newt is such a good person! And when he died it's just sad, when he tells his story about the time when he tried to suicide! That makes it even worse. The fact that Thomas doesn't open the note before and then at one point he even says that he put the note away because there was nothing he could do! Then I hated Thomas even more. When Newt says his last words it just broke my heart. How innocent it sounds. He's begging him to put him out of his misery. Even Alec from The Kill Order put his friend Lana out of her misery killing her. That's the least thing both Thomas and Alec could do for their friends. It's sad but at least Newt had that last moment of sanity. He had the Flare, there is no cure so it makes sense that he has to die. Before reading about Newt I read about other cranks how they lose it and go past the Gone and stuff and honestly it didn't matter because I thought they were all immune so it didn't matter but when Newt has it, it just broke my heart and made me cry so much. The way he accepts it and says he better die than to live in a world like that. He was trying to be brave and he is brave. He'd rather die than to go crazy. He doesn't want their friends to see him. It's just really sad and heart breaking. I get why so much people mourn him, he was such an awesome character. I can't say how much I loved him and how much it hurt when he was just gone. Not there anymore. But he will be always one of my favorite and most loved character ever.
"Please, Tommy. Please"
The way Thomas pulls the trigger without looking at Newt and then runs away is so disturbing for me. I mean it makes me like and hate Thomas at the same time. I like him because he puts poor Newt out of his despair before he totally loses it and becomes inhuman and I am glad he is the one. They are best friends and it is the least Thomas does. On the other hand it might be that Thomas was the one who put him in the Maze in the first place. And again when he pulls the trigger he has his face turned so how does he really know that he killed him and that he is dead. It might be that he just hit him on the check or something and then without looking turned and ran. I know it must have been horrible but he should at least not left his body to rot in the street where other Cranks could've eaten him. I know that that's not the first thing that Thomas was must've thought especially when he was actually going to save other people, but still Newt was his friend. Another thing I don't like is that Minho and Newt doesn't have a chance to say goodbye properly, as they knew each other way before Thomas showed up in the Glade, and worse Thomas promises that he won't tell Minho what he did to Newt so that Minho is left thinking who knows what about him when his friend is actually saved in his own way.
It feels like he left his friend to die just when he needed him the same way he did with Teresa. I am really grateful that at least before Teresa dies Thomas says that they are finally standing on equal ground again so it shows that he has forgiven her. If he didn't then really I don't know what to say because she actually proves that she cares. First when she throws herself at the Griever and tells him to run, I am so proud of her. Giving up her life to save him is really high price to pay for the betrayal thing. Honestly I think that after all that it was Thomas who didn't deserve Teresa. She risked her life with the Griever to save everyone while where's Brenda right then? She just ran away to get to a safer place. Brenda looks so selfish! And Thomas as well sometimes. That is why Newt's last world to him, even though he was not in control of himself, looked quite true to me. Thomas does act like he is the hero. I mean he's only human like anyone else. Newt is an actual hero.
I am glad that at least Thomas saves her and don't just run away. But straight after, while Teresa is all messed up and nearly died to save him he runs to Minho and asks if Brenda is okay!!! O my god! How I hated him right then. She is safe, I mean she left you behind and ran for the safe place, okay that Minho told her to but if really cared she would've tried to help him. While the girl who just died for Thomas is just like she's nothing.
The blow point was Teresa's actual death. I thought that after the Griever thing Thomas would've totally forgiven her and then they would all make it out and between Brenda and Teresa, Teresa would've been the right choice for him. Obviously, because she showed she cares for him by giving her life. Not once but twice. I never read about Brenda doing such a thing. Also in the previous book Teresa actually helps Brenda get up the berg and saves her. Teresa is such a powerful and wonderful character. She didn't deserve that fate. She is been there for so long and then it took only some stupid ceiling falling on her and one moments she is there and the next she's down there blood covered and still thinking about Thomas. She doesn't think twice about dying to save him.
The way her death is described. I mean it's like less that ten lines as if she meant nothing. She meant a lot to me, she's going to be my favourite character ever. And I didn't like that. Okay, at least Thomas says sorry, but what he's now gonna do, nothing. He can do nothing. I mean how many times has poor Teresa asked Thomas sorry? And he always backed away from her never forgiving her. Everyone treated her badly. And now that she's dying Thomas says sorry, that's stupid. Even harder to accept is the fact that she doesn't get to finish her last words. Who was it that ever cared about? Probably Thomas. But this he deserve that? Then again I know there is all chaos and everything but Minho and Brenda, stupid Brenda, take him away from dying Teresa. He says that he doesn't have the strength nor the will to fight it and get back to Teresa. That's when I hate Thomas. Totally hate him. Teresa just died for him, and he says he doesn't have the will to get back to her.
Even when they get back to the safe haven place Brenda says to Thomas that she is sorry about Teresa. Sorry about what? The only thing that Brenda did was ruin everything between them. It seems like James Dashner killed of Teresa so that Thomas didn't have to worry choosing between the two. If it's true then that's stupid. And Thomas doesn't even seem to care. He just goes on and kisses Brenda. WHAT????!!! YOUR BEST FRIEND HAS BEEN JUST CRUSHED TO DEATH!!! That's unbelievable. He doesn't even seem to mourn her! He's more gone than the cranks!
Okay. (**deep breath**)
It makes sense why Teresa dies to save Thomas. I mean she was in the prequel – The Kill Order – and we understand all her history as a child, how she was left behind by her own people just as a child and saw all that horrors just as a small girl. Marc, Trina and Alec did so much to save her before all dying. I really liked those three and it was like Teresa was all that was left of them. She was the last connection to then and that is even sadder. Thomas was for her probably what Mark was for Trina. She had no one but Thomas. And when even he left her she had no one left. So she decides to die because she understands that she has no one but still has friend. And probably thinks that she's never going to fit with them. He's leaving her behind. In the prologue of The Kill Order Teresa is there for him and they said goodbye before the swipe. She didn't know then that was the last time she would see the real Thomas. They spied on WICKED together, they played together, and they learnt to talk telepathically together. She's been there for so long. And he just leaves her behind.
It also makes sense why she is so desperate to find a cure. She saw so much pain and horrors in her life just as a child, she lived through it all. Thomas was taken away from his mother, but he had her with him. Teresa was just left to die by her own people. She saw her parents die in front of her in a nasty way. Her own brother leaves her behind. They thought she was evil then and now they think she's the betrayer. It's such a tragedy. My heart breaks so much for her.
I really hope to find out more about her in the new book coming out this month – The Fever Code.
I actually only read the kill order after finding out that little Deedee was Teresa. And knowing all that makes it harder to accept that Mark, Trina and Alec did so much to save her just so that she lives through more horrors, gets hurt and dies under some stupid ceiling falling on top of her to save someone who she cared so much about, who just leaves her to die alone.
It made me cry. Again.
It was better that she had died with Mark and Trina 13 years earlier. At least she would've died with loved ones.
My God I never wrote such a long review in my life. Okay. In conclusion i have to say that I didn't particularly like this book of the three. Especially because my favourite character never shows in the book enough and then she just dies.
I hope that with the new book we get more answers. I mean I want to know where this safe haven thing is. Also because Brenda destroys the Flat Trans after getting through. She obviously knows the place, knew it very long ago. And what if something happens in the safe haven and they have to get back, they can't because Brenda destroyed their only way back. She could've just blocked it or something. Also how come Thomas blindly believes everything Brenda says and even after he reads the letter from Ava Paige. We know that she is good because of the epilogue but Thomas has never even met her in the books. And how is he certainly sure that she was the one who wrote the letter to help him escape. It could have been someone else. O my God. I need to finish this review!
So about the Fever code I know it tells more about Newt, but I want to know how the actual Maze was planned and it seems like I will get the answers. Also more about Thomas and Teresa's relationship before losing their memory and why they were sent in the maze in the first place.
I have one last important thing to say about the Safe Haven. After reading the kill order I got that there was this Flat Trans in Asheville before the building is blown away by Alec's berg. So it might be that the Flat Trans Thomas and the others go through is the same one as the one Deedee aka Teresa went in in the first place to be saved. Asheville was surrounded by greenery, trees and stuff, and it has been thirteen years that Deedee went through it. And it might be that in the destruction the Flat Trans might have been saved. And thirteen years is a long time to make everything perfect again especially with all the money WICKED has. I am saying that if that is it then the Safe Haven is actually Asheville. It's just a suggestion. But if it is the same Flat Trans then my heart breaks even more for Teresa because that was where she would have come back to where she last left the people who cared for her, and who tried to remain sane just to get her safe. But she died just out there, before she got to the place and we never get to know.
I still wish that both she and Newt were alive – I hope they do that in the movie. If the will have a different ending then I would love it more than the book. But then again Newt has the Flare so it makes sense but Teresa she can be saved. I don't know – I hope that there is another sequel because I am confused.
In the end WICKED was good. I was surprised to know when Ava mentions that the virus was artificially made and set off on purpose. That is inhuman.Heartless is that Newt has to die in such a way. Thomas didn't get his memories back because he was scared to find out who he really was. That is incredulous: he is weak as a character he doesn't develop in this book. I've seen lot of potential in him in the first two books but he ends abruptly. He doesn't take the consequences of something he's done, even if he was forced to do it. At least Teresa and Frypan and the others were brave enough to do it. When Thomas meets Teresa in the middle of the book she has her memories back and know all about the past so he doesn't care but she does because she knows how things were before their memory swipe. Teresa has to die just feet away from freedom and maybe finally happiness, all things that fate has taken away from her brutally. And she was right in the end. And Thomas kept criticizing her because she was on about wicked being good.
But that is true in the end, in a way.
WICKED IS GOOD.
