Teresa looked straight at the Rat Man. Then she slowly turned her face towards Thomas. He saw pain in her eyes. Pain and courage. He felt a pang of sadness himself, and almost forgot what she had done to him. What was the choice she had to make?

It looked something important. Or was it just an act again?

He was having a hard time to read her expression. Minho elbowed him and when Thomas looked at him, he raised an eyebrow. Maybe he saw there was something wrong.

The Rat Man cleared his throat and looked from Teresa to Thomas. "Ok" he said. "Teresa, we'll make the choice easier. We'll prove to you what we have discussed yesterday."

Everyone was uneasy. It was strange, it was like The Rat Man only saw Teresa, as if she were the only one in the room.

Teresa nodded slightly and The Rat Man turned towards the door where a soldier in green uniform was standing and made a gesture with his hand. The soldier went out calmly and everyone held their breath. It seemed endless to Thomas, the time the soldier took to exit and return. The whole time he continued to watch Teresa.

"What is this shucking choice?" Minho said under his breath.

"I have no idea" Thomas answered.

"I feel this is bloody going a wrong way" said Newt.

Neither Thomas, nor Minho said anything. How could Newt talk so casually? What was going wrong more than he and their friends having the Flare?

What could be worse than that?

Thomas could hear other whispers coming from the Gladers. Everyone shot glances towards where Teresa was sitting. Probably they were just confused.

Then the big double doors opened and Thomas heard the air coming in.

Brenda.
