chapter one | a life in new york

After the events that took place in Magnus's apartment Clary finally had the hope of finding her mom. At the moment she was running up the steps of the institute. She was looking for the Shadowhunters who had become her friends in the weeks since her mother disappeared. Not that she called Alec Lightwood a friend, since he did in fact hate her. But at the moment that didn't matter because she finally knew where to find the cup.

When she finally found them she noticed them all gathered around a table. As soon as she ran in the group paused to look at her. Clary let out a deep breath before calming down.

"Clary, are you okay?" Jace asked as he looked at Clary with concern. Clary waved him off and didn't answer.

She took a deep breath before saying, "I know where the cup is." Everyone in the room looked surprised. Even Alec was so interested in what she was saying that he turned to fully look at her.

He was also the first to speak. He was the one who wanted the cup back more than anyone. He didn't care about anything else because he knew the Clave would want it as soon as possible. "Where is it?"

Clary took in another breath before responding. "California, in a town called Beacon Hills."

Everyone was beyond confused. Why would the cup be on the other side of the county? The only thing running through Alec's mind was what the hell was Jocelyn Fairchild thinking?

"Do you know why it's there?" The other female in the room asked. Alec glanced at his sister before he looked back over to Clary.

The red head nodded. "My mom gave it to this family of hunters. The Harrisons."

The Harrisons? Alec hadn't heard that name in a very long time. He remembered how much his parents would talk about that family. How they were the best shadowhunters and how they helped get rid of Valentine. But as far as he knew the Harrison family gave up on being shadowhunters a long time ago.

Deciding to voice his thoughts because no one else seemed to have a clue on who that family was Alec said,

"My parents used to tell me the Harrison family where the best shadowhunters to ever live. What they also said was that they quit being shadowhunters a long time ago."

"Well," Clary paused as she came to a realization. "if they where the best than I can see why my mom gave them the cards."

"Okay, how will we get them back?" Isabelle Lightwood asked the group. Everyone was quite for a long moment. No one could think about anything. But at this point there was only one thing left to do.
