chapter twenty-three | saving coach

When the boys finally picked Artemis up they wasted no time in going to the rehabilitation center. Which surprisingly is where Coach Finstock was at.

"What the hell is Coach doing here?" The blonde asked as they reached the entrance doors.

"I guess we're about to find out."

When the three teens walked inside they found their coach sitting on a couch in front of them. When they walked up to him they found him staring blankly up at the wall.

"What?" Stiles whispered in confusion. He shared a glance with Artemis who only shrugged in response.

"Hey, Coach, it's Scott, Stiles and Artemis." Scott said as the boys sat down on either side of him. The blonde decided to sit across from them.

Stiles waved his hand in front of there coach's face when he didn't reply. "Coach, you're in rehab. You didn't have a lobotomy." Stiles said.

"Coach?" Artemis asked. In that moment Stiles decided to reach for the table. Artemis hadn't even noticed she was sitting by a game of chest and from the looks of it someone was winning. Artemis watched Stiles as he tried to move a chest piece. But of course he didn't get a chance because suddenly Coach's hand shot out and stopped him.

"Don't you touch it." Coach snapped as Artemis jumped back in fright. "I've got Nurse Gonzalez by the balls of the last three moves and she knows it."

"Let it go. You're checking out of this place now." Stiles retorted.

Much to Artemis's annoyance, Coach started shushing him. "Not a chance."

"Okay, Coach, but, we know you're fine." Scott added as Artemis placed her head in her hands.

"Shhh! I have a debilitating disease." Coach said with air quotes. "It's called "I'm not going to take another arrow to my stomach-phobia." Look it up."

"Nobody's shooting arrows at anyone, okay old man!?" Artemis snapped while looking up at him. "We just need you to coach the charity game."

"Charity?" Coach said with a scoff. "Not a chance." Artemis couldn't help but glare at him.

"How exactly have you been conning them into letting you stay here?" Asked Stiles.

"I, uh... I have relapses. It's... It's serious. I've had seven of them."

Artemis rolled her eyes. She couldn’t believe these people actually believed Finstock's story. But this only meant his been doing this every month. "So you've relapsesd once a month."

"Yeah, you see, uh, every time they are just about to discharge me, I relapse."

"And no one noticed the pattern?" Stiles asked while glancing at Artemis. The blonde was beyond annoyed with this situation and all she wanted was to leave this place.

"I have phenomenal health insurance. So why don't you guys," Artemis cleared her throat. "and girl get the hell out of here. I hate charity games. They're meaningless."

"I don't think the charities would agree." Stiles retorted.

"What's it for this year?"

"Cancer." Scott replied.

"For or against?"

Oh my g- "Against, Coach. Deeply against."

"Yeah, okay, well, I'm deeply not interested." Artemis really wanted to strangle him, but she kept herself from doing it.

The three teens shared a look before Scott said, "Coach, we need you."

Coach tapped both boys on the shoulder. "I will never coach there again."

"That's okay." Stiles cut in. "Because we don't actually need you to coach the game."

"We need you to forfeit." Both Artemis and Scott said together.

After that coach just stared at them. And that's when the blonde knew he was in.
