chapter twenty-five | fighting together

Once the boys and Kira were done getting ready for the game, the pack decided to met up in a classroom. They were going over the plan for the night, but Artemis couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to happen.

"Mason you know your part..." Scott said as he walked up to a table.

"Corey and I break into Devenford Bus and search their shoes."

"I take out the TV vans." Malia said as she walked up to stand by Scott.

"Right before the whistle, Coach forfeits the game." Stiles replied from next to the blonde.

"The rest of us are looking for a size 10 with a bloody sole." Liam added.

"Which means I will be searching under the bleachers." The blonde replied.

"Just out of curiosity... What if it doesn't work?" Malia asked. "What if we have to go up against this thing? I mean, I hate to bring up bad memories but Scott's still healing from what Theo did to him."

"No, he's not." Kira said as Artemis moved her gaze from Kira to her brother.

"She's right." Scott replied as he showed everyone his stomach.

Everyone was looking at him with confusion written all over there faces. But as Artemis looked over her brother's stomach she noticed he was completely healed.  "It happened the night we got Lydia out of Eichen House. I healed. When we were all together again, when we were a pack."

"The Beast doesn't have a pack." Liam said after a moment of silence.

Artemis smiled at her family. She knew what Scott had meant. As long as they stayed together, they will be able to fight the Beast. "Not like us."

Scott nodded at in agreement. "We can do this, guys. No one dies tonight."

Once the blonde walked out of the classroom she followed after her friends towards the field. Artemis stood off to the side as she watched all the boys getting ready to play the lacrosse game. Artemis watched in confusion as she saw Stiles talking to their Coach. Why hasn't coach forfeited the game? Artemis thought to herself as she stared to walk towards them. Before the blonde could even reach them she felt someone grab her arm.

Artemis was and could have let out a scream but she didn't because she soon realized that Alec was the one who grabbed her. The other shadowhunters were right behind them as Alec led the group towards a classroom.

Once everyone was inside Alec let go of Artemis. The blonde took that as her chance to try and get away but they managed to block the door.

"No please I don't have time for this. My friends, they need me."

Clary took a step closer to Artemis and said, "I'm sorry, Artemis but you can't leave until we talk to you."

Artemis rolled her eyes. "I can't talk right now! A lot could go wrong tonight and I need to be there for my friends."

Alec watched the blonde in confusion. "What are you talking about? It's just one stupid game."

The blonde stayed quite after that. There was no way she could tell them the truth. At least not now. "Fine." She finally said. "I'll give you guys five minutes, but after that I have to go." Artemis could only hope that everything was going according to plan and that her pack didn't need her.

Little did she know Coach Finstock didn't forfeit the game and her friends did need her.

"Okay I know this is going to take some time to understand, but you were adopted." Clary was the first to speak up.

Artemis rolled her eyes. "Of course I was. I don't know if you guys know this or not but my parents died when I was a baby."

Jace watched her with a sad smile. "That's not what she meant."

The blonde looked at them confused. At that moment Alec stepped towards her and grabbed her hands in his. "Do you remember when I told you we knew what really happened to your parents?"

Artemis nodded. "Your real parents aren't the Harrisons."

Artemis took her hands out of Alec's as she moved back. "What are you talking about?"

"Come on think about it. Clary's mom gave the box to the Harrisons so they could keep it safe."

"I don't understand..." Artemis said as she looked from Clary to Alec.

"Artemis," Alec paused. "Clary's mother is your biological mother."

"How..." Artemis said in weak voice. She didn't understand how this could be possible. She didn't even look like Clary. How could they be sisters?

Clary stepped forward again so she could stand in front of her blonde sister. "Our Mom knew she had to keep you and the cup away from our father. The only way to do that was to give you both up."

"That's how you ended up in the Harrison's care. Emily Harrison was a good friend of Clary's mother and she knew you would be safe with her." Izzy added.

Somehow the blonde believed them. It made since because the cards never belonged to her parents, well her adopted parents. The cards and the stele belonged to her biological mother, Clary's mother. But even if the blonde believed them there was still some things off. Like the fact that Clary and Artemis look nothing alike.

"Okay," The blonde paused. "So what if this is all true. How can Clary and I be sisters when we look nothing alike."

"That's because you look more like our father and I look more like our mother."

Artemis didn't like the sound of that. This was all to new and too much to take in. Plus she never even met Clary's mom. "Look I don't want to sound like I'm disrespecting your mom, but can you stop calling her that."

"Artemis."

"No, Clary. Your mother hasn't been in my life and I understand why she gave me up, but that doesn't make her my mom."

Clary looked at Artemis angrily. "But she gave birth to you, Artemis! She carried you around for nine months and you can't even call her mom?!"

Artemis rolled her eyes angrily. "How can you be so stupid! Don't you understand that doesn't make her a mom. My mom! Yes, she carried me around and she brought me into this world, but she didn't raise me. She was never a mother to me. The only real mother I've ever had is Melissa McCall. She raised me and she kept me alive. That's what a real mother is!"

Suddenly Artemis heard screams coming from outside the classroom. She instantly knew the screams belonged to the teenagers who where running for there lives. In one move Artemis ran towards the door and opened it. As soon as she did the blonde saw a lot of people run by the classroom door.

Shit... Artemis thought to herself. The plan didn't work.
