chapter thirty-five | the overwhelming feeling of homesick
It's been two days since Artemis has heard anything from her family. Two days of being stuck inside her room and not wanting to see anyone. In those two days she tried to call Isaac, but all the call said was that his phone wasn't available. Which this made her worry because it wasn't just his phone with this problem, but everyone else's too.
The next day Artemis woke up early to train. The blonde was dressed in a pair of black leggings and a dark red sports bra. Her hair was in a tight side braid and with this much skin exposed you could see the red rune on the side of her neck.
As soon as she reached the training room Artemis came face to face with a boxing bag. The minute her fist made contact with the boxing bag all her thoughts of her biological family vanished. It was like with every punch Artemis was taken farther away from New York and all thoughts of the Shadowhunters left her mind in a flash.
In it's place was the memories of her real home. In her mind she was home with the people she loved. And what made all this worst was the thought of never seeing them again.
If it wasn't for Alec, who was now standing behind her, Artemis would have kept hitting the hard boxing bag.
"Maybe you should stop before you hurt yourself."
Artemis rolled her eyes as she started to punch harder. "And maybe you should mind you're own business." She snapped back.
Before Artemis could get another hit in Alec grabbed her by her shoulders and turned her around.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked as he moved some of her fallen hair behind her ear. His hand later moved to her neck so he could hold her head up. Artemis looked up at him for the first time since he walked in and she wondered why he hadn't moved his hand away.
"What's wrong is that I want to go home, Alec. I miss my home, I miss my mom and most importantly I miss my friends."
Alec sighed as he watched her blue eyes start to water. "You can't go back. Not when Valentine is trying to kidnap you."
Artemis shook her head and moved Alec's hand back down to his side. "I would be more safe if I was back home, on the other side of the country."
This time Alec shook his head. "No, I won't let you leave because if you do leave and something happens to you... I will never forgive myself."
His arms were now around her and Artemis took this moment to place her hands on top of his chest. They were so close that both hunters could feel each other's breath.
Without realizing it Alec started to bring his head closer to hers. Artemis was following his actions, but in the back of her mind she felt like she was doing something wrong.
Their lips were about to touch when they heard Clary's voice from a couple feet away. "I'm sorry to interrupt but Artemis, Magnas is about to wake up our mom."
The blonde nodded and later moved herself out of the Lightwood's arms. She took two steps back and after a moment, walked to were her water was.
Clary was waiting by the stairs and as soon as her sister reached her she took her arm and lead her to where their mom was at.
